July 4th Event at FAU

You probably all know this but just in case you didn't…

Get Ready for Another Fabulous Fourth at FAU!

The Boca Raton campus will once again be the scene of one of the most spectacular Fourth of July celebrations in South Florida. Bring the whole family to this free event, which will include a concert by the Wind Symphony of Florida under the direction of Dr. George Sparks, a stage show titled "You're a Grand Old Flag" by ZMC Entertainment, rides, games, crafts, picnic food and fireworks.

The fun will start at 6 p.m. and continue until 9. Volunteer workers at the Humanitarian Society Tent will be collecting non-perishable food items to send to our troops overseas. You can also make a monetary donation to support "Operation Goody Boxes."

Please note that personal fireworks, sparklers, open fires, alcoholic beverages and dogs are not permitted
at this event, which is presented by the City of Boca Raton, the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, Florida Atlantic University and the Sun-Sentinel.

This event draws something like 40,000 people to FAU every year. Marcus Nelson was talking about how smooth the massive traffic operated on July 4th last year and what a positive sign that was that the city could handle FAU football games…

Good point with that Adam. I would be interested to see a Hutton and/or Nelson piece with interviews from city officials, school officials and people sitting in the traffic about the expierence they had navigating the roadways on July 4.

Yet another thing FAU does for Boca Raton. We should make a list and mail it to the mayor who thinks FAU is good for nothing.

Right?!?

- July 4th event
- Lifelong Learning classes
- Guest Speakers (Jane Goodall, etc)
- Art Galleries
- Concerts in the Barry Kaye Auditorium
- Athletics Events

Interesting tidbit: if you counted the Lifelong Learning students, we'd have 19,000 + 26,000 = 45,000 students at FAU. But I know they don't count as actual students.

They just count as people who take up parking spaces.

They also aren't all there at the same time.

Well, they sure seem to come in groves during key basketball games at least a couple of times a season, and take up the whole parking lot adjacent to the baseball stadium…….

AND dont pay $5 to park there.
