Essentially what happens is that you get put in a themed room with some of your friends and have to solve puzzles to get out in 60 minutes - and it's not like you're sitting around doing crossword puzzles but more like figuring out codes or using objects to see behind doors or looking for hidden keys to open locks.
(Side note: if you're claustrophobic don't worry because this place doesn't actually lock you in; you can leave to go to the bathroom or whatever at any time)
I've done a lot of them, both in and out of state, and (unsurprisingly if you read the Diehard blog) I always thought it would be great to have one near FAU especially as they renovate 20th Street.
Well I lucked out because they just opened the Master Escape Room right near the intersection of 20th Street and Dixie Highway in that office building next to Advance Auto Parts. The entrance is the southernmost door facing the road.
And this is honestly one of the best escape rooms I've ever done.
Downsides: you have to book online ahead of time. $28/person (typical of the industry, and worth it). They run the rooms every 2 hours (it takes time to reset all the puzzles). They only have one room available now but they're eventually going to have 3. The room now is called FBI Investigation where you (eventually) figure out a mafia crime scene. It's all ages, rated PG, no gore. I did it with 2 people and didn't finish so I would recommend at least 4 in order to solve all the puzzles in time. The lady at the front was super nice.
Here's their website.
Plugging it because I had an awesome time there, I really want this place to survive, and it's the holidays so you may be looking for something fun to do with your relatives/significant others when they come into town.
