Hoard your bread… were all gonna die!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I miss the humor in the idea of a category 4 hitting us.  ???

I guess that I am not one to worry about something that is at least 4 or 5 days away and if statistics play out will not effect us in a major way.  The one good thing about the path of the storm aimed directly at you 5 days out is that hurricanes never seem to follow the path.  If it is still aimed at us on Sunday night my jovial mood about the storm may change…

I hear ya, Hotel.  I'm typically the same way, but I guess the fact that this storm could take the southerly path through Florida reminds me of what Andrew did (or am I mistaken?).

I think the forecast of these things suck and I am very tired of the hightened emotions media creates.  As I said to people before, you watch the hurricane updates and the next commercial is for Home Depot, Lowes or Publix.  That's all by design, people.

it is very similar to Andrew, except not as strong…and i have already heard the weather folks compare it to Andrew:

small compact, and tightly wound.

Obviously Andrew was a very strong CAT 5, so it isn't quite on that level…but nonethless, a serious consideration to say the lvery least…

Re: This one has me worried

The 11Am advisory has it now headin through the keys and up the gulf coast.  Still waiting till sunday before I make any major decisions.

And I agree with all you guys, this stuff is way overhyped, and it gets worse as the storm actually makes landfall.  In 04 when we were gettin all the storms through central FL, we would just turn off the tv cause it got unbearable.  The TV people crack me up getting pelted by wind an rain.  Always reminds me of the Ron White clip:  "It's not how the wind blows, its what the wind blows". ;D

There will never be another Andrew in SoFla. Maybe one like it…but that storm was WOW.

FAU will "continue to monitor the storm" and probably make a call this weekend. Because of it's intensity, FAU will have to evacuate the resident halls and what not, so they may make a statement sooner than usual.

I would assume (and you know what happens when people assume) that some kind of e-mail and/or message will go out today just telling people to watch the web site over the weekend and FAU will probably make a call Sunday. Again, that's my assumption.

Sorry, I gotta quote myself on this one. LOL LOL LOL

Here's what FAU just sent out via e-mail:

At this time, all FAU classes and business services are operating on a normal basis and no campus closings are anticipated. University officials are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Ike and will send out a revised message immediately should conditions change.

On Sunday, September 7, at noon, there will be updated information on the University's status for the week beginning Monday, September 8. For continual updates on FAU's status, visit www.fau.edu or call an FAU hotline listed below…

The 2 pm advisory is more of the same. Looks like it will make landfall as a cat 4 in the Keys which would still effect us. Another probability has it moving North and making landfall over Miami as a cat 3 or a cat 4

Andrew even made a dart south right before landfall...i remember being on Miami Beach trying to decide whether to go to Lake Worth or Kendall and literally 8 hours before it hit, they said Palm Beach was gonna get slammed so I went to Kendall...awesome choice.

That sounds like todays weatherman discussing the storm.

"It's probably a possibility this may hit Florida, we think."

While still uncertain, we believe that, based on it's current projected path, it is somewhat of a probability that the storm may land between the highlighted area ..any points in between might want to consider preparing an evacuation plan in the event that it could possibly impact thier location.

More to come at 11:00.
