IDK if I should even bring this up here but I just feel the need to say that this whole school shooting thing is crazy  :o. I understand that nobody can control the actions of one person and I know that the world in general is a crazy place but I cant help but think how this situation could have happened at FAU. I know that FAU put in some sort of emergency plan after VT happened, and I'm also sure that NIU did something similar, but has FAU done enough. I know many people have that "it'll never happen here" mentality but I'm not one of them and NIU just reinforces that. Prayers and best wishes to those who were effected and hoping nothing like this ever happens at FAU.

NIU is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from where I am and numerous people at my office either went to school there or have kids there now. I expect to hear more about it tomorrow.

The sad thing is that it can't be prevented. College campuses are pretty much open access for anyone. It is pretty scary, but the only things in place are mechanisms to warn people after a trajedy has already begun to happen as opposed to before it occurs. Thoughts and prayers with NIU.

That's what I was thinking.

You really can't prevent this without having police EVERYWHERE and that's unrealistic for several reasons – not the least of which is budget. As a result, this can happen anywhere and I think the best chance to fight it is actually much earlier, when you have a chance to provide mandatory anger/stress management workshops to middle-schoolers.

Here in lies the downside of living in a "free world".
