I don't see what the problem is (yeah, i know it's illegal), unless he was stoned when he was swimming in Bejing. In that case they should give him an additional medal.  There are plenty of good decent people out there who enjoy a good toke, i don't think that makes them stupid or a bad person.

It doesn't make him a bad person, but he is a dope for possibly throwing away his career. Like it or not things like result in sponsorships being pulled and lots of money being lost. Again, I am not saying he is a bad person. He just made a very bad decision that very well might have a serious impact on his financial and professional future. It is like NFL players who continuously make bad decisions and put themselves in bad situations. When you are in the public spotlight you are held to a higher standard (fair or unfair) and it shouldn't be so difficult to avoid making a fool of yourself.

It's one thing to have parapheneila and another to actually smoke. Do any of these sources have proof he was smoking weed? If it was just a pipe then he can have the argument that it could be anything in there

I don't condone smoking marijuana, but I hardly see how this could be seen as a career ender.  For one thing, he's a swimmer.  His sport is popular every 4 years.  By the time the next Olympics come around, nobody will remember this incident.  He'll come out and publically appologize, do some anti-drug ads and that will be the end of it.  If getting caught smoking weed was career ending, most of the NBA would be out of work.
