No, but why do you know this?

Because I keep up with what's happening, not only for myself but also for you guys here on the board.

I wonder what happened to dip sticks. I mean I know it was just dyed sugar with a stick (that didn't taste very good, even though I ate it anyway), but man I really miss it.

You sure you don't want some

Sweet! :P

Ah man i used to have a house about two blocks down the street from that store.  I used to stop by there every morning for a red bull and donuts(breakfast of champions).  Did the Indians own it back in the day like they do now.  I never even looked to see what the real name of that place was, I just always called it Habibes.  By the way, I think they still have dip sticks for sale on the shelf that is from the same batch that they sold to you back in the day.  Man I miss that place, im gonna go there tommorrow.

Back then there were no Indians in Boca, everything was very small town feel.  I was looking at a house in that neighborhood a few weeks ago, everything is overpriced (especially the beer) so don't bother.

Yeah i sold the place i had over there about a year ago.  Bought in 2002, sold in 2006 for about 60% more than what i paid for.  Laughed my ass all the way to the Land Rover dealership.  Theres no way in hell id pay what people are asking for those old houses in that neighborhood.  Give it a year or two and those people will come to reality with their prices.  I got lucky and beat real estate slump, I gotta a buddy thats had his place in that neighborhood on the market for over a year now.  Dont even get me started on beer prices in boca.

Is this still going to happen or what.  Havent heard anything in a while lately.  Actually last I heard it was running into a few snags.  I just was reading an article in the miami herald from last friday about FIU's medical school and it got we wondering whats going on with FAU's on campus hospital that was making big news a while back.  Anybody know whats going on

BRCH has to right their ship financially before they can commit to a construction date. They're in a muck right now for several reasons and it may take them 5-10 years to get out of it.

Furthermore – as you may have read – they didn't even get the donations from the community in the amount they wanted. It's got to be a hard pitch to people: "Yes, we already HAVE a hospital but we want a NEW ONE." I also know that they got a gift for a robotics surgery center within that new hospital and it would be a shame if that fell through. If it's true that they're going to build onto BRCH instead, I would hope the robotics surgery center gets a home there.

Look, worse comes to worse, BRCH stays where it is and we just rotate medical/nursing students through there. They're already doing it now anyway. FAU's medical program won't falter as a result of not having the new hospital on-campus and it may be a blessing anyway since there isn't a whole lot of undeveloped land left and FAU could use that area for something else (coughHOUSINGcough)

Anyway, I was told that FAU pitched its own medical building to the Florida legislature. I don't know the details of it except to say that it would be significantly smaller than the existing hospital. The upside to this is that we would own it rather than lease out space to another entity.

I don't know if that proposal was approved or not. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.

I sort of agree with you here but I have mixed emotions. We've been bragging to all the FAU bashers that we would have a teaching hospital right on campus.  I am kinda dissapointed that FAU might not have an hospital on campus BUT BRCH is only, what, 2 minutes from campus? On the flip side, that would have used 38 acres of campus real estate. It seems if they expand and turn BRCH into a true teaching hospital just down the street from the campus, not much would be lost except bragging rights. Then again it would be nice to have a modern, state of the art teaching hospital right on campus. I'm sure that would boost the reputation of the med program.

Has anyone heard, have the scandles been hurting fund raising efforts? This hospital is not property of FAU. The donations go to the hospital but its association with FAU might have hurt. I do remember the $75 mil donation that was pledged.

Right but that was by a member of the Schmidt family (with previous connections to FAU) who was also on the BOT for BRCH, if I remember correctly. It sounded to me like "get the ball moving" money more than anything else. Obviously it didn't work that well. The people of Boca just didn't get behind this the way they did when BRCH first started. They also didn't get behind FAU or the stadium.

I know a lot of people talk about the rich demographic of Boca and how it's a great place to be for fundraising but apparently it isn't because everyone is still struggling to hit goals here. And maybe it's not that people don't want to donate as much as it is that people are tired of being hounded for donations. I wouldn't be surprised if every organization you've ever heard of, even the ones you haven't like the Third Nipple Awareness Foundation, have run the well dry here.

These fundraisers are ruthless too… I try to volunteer when I hear about something I think is a great cause and they always hit me up for money too.  I give but sometimes I feel a little used in the process.
