After 6-6 Season, Notre Dame Fires Charlie Weis

Two days after finishing a 6-6 regular season with a loss at Stanford, Notre Dame fired head coach Charlie Weis, the New York Daily News is reporting on its website.

Players began arriving for a team meeting Monday afternoon while awaiting official word on Weis' fate.

The meeting will include a vote on whether the players want to play in a bowl game. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.

Weis was not in his office early Monday, though there were no announcements about whether he will return for a sixth season. Swarbrick has said he will make that decision within the next few days.

Material from the Associated Press was used in this report.
