Big 5 Autonomy & Possible Creation of Division IV

Add topic

Post

Here is something to take focus off of the FAU vs. UM debacle in the Scarlett thread.  Unfortunately for us and many other schools this most likely will go through and we'll never have a chance to be a Boise State knocking off a top caliber team for a major bowl title.

If the NCAA decides to not give the Big 5 autonomy, expect them to separate from the NCAA and create a Division IV that will redefine college athletics and the "student" athlete as we know it.

Walty, this is what you've been waiting for.

Can't see it passing…too much power loss for the NCAA, and other programs.

Besides, this is a just an attempt at stopping the gap closure that has obviously been taking place due to social media and recruiting trend shifts.

Slive and his compatriots will break away and form their NFL Jr. league to keep the $$$ with the Power Conferences someday. Now, how Wake and Duke and Vandy and Northwestern and Iowa St and …. are all considered "Majors" as compared to UCF both in terms of success AND enrollment I will never get, just been around longer!

They were pulled in to the big boy programs because of academic reputation.  It was to make the money hungry football conferences look like they care about academics.

"He wasn't afraid to pull from the history books to make a point on the rapidly changing world of college athletics, quoting Dwight Eisenhower, Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela at different moments."

I didn't hear his speech but seriously, get the [email protected] over yourself Slive. I'm sure when Churchill was rallying a country back from near defeat by the NAZIs or Mandella was willing to die fighting Apartheid they were thinking how it was shockingly similar to the SECs desire to be able to give bigger scholarships.

Big 5 Autonomy

I think we all knew it was coming but this is not good for the rest of us.

This is bad but inevitable… the silver lining is at least UCF and USF aren't part of the Big 5 so we still have a legit shot at beating them out for recruits.

Started this topic a few weeks ago at this link here.

What is interesting is it allows all schools to adopt their rules, but there is no way we can afford some of these things that a UCF or USF probably can.
