Conference shake ups continue

And President Saunders - she can sweet talk anybody! If the BigEast survives, hello BigEast!

It'd be nice and I know why WE want it but - why exactly would they want us, again? Is our strongest argument really that adding us would net them the Palm Beach County TV market?

Why not? Louisville is 50th. The West Palm Beach TV market is the 38th biggest in the nation.  The Miami market is actually the "Miami-Ft. Lauderdale" market, which playing in Boca, we also reach into, and that is the 16th largest.  I'm not saying the Big East would come calling, but playing in South Florida, we are in one of the biggest combined markets in the country.

UConn seeking out ACC as well….

Big East better start making some moves or all will be left is TCU!

And don't count on TCU staying aboard a sinking ship. It has something to offer to another conference if the Big East deal falls through. Worst case, it could stay with the Mountain West, which now has Boise State.

Re: Conference shake ups continue

That's what I'm saying, why doesn't the Mountain West try to add more teams?  Especially those BCS teams that may be on the outside looking in and then petition the NCAA to become an AQ conference. Maybe try to add a Kansas or a Kansas State. I'm guessing with the Pac 12 now going to 16 and soon the ACC and SEC also going to 16 that the Big 10 will follow and add 4 more teams as well.

Which like someone else said, that may be the end of the Big East, at least for football

This was actually a good read. It had to do with mainly basketball but still discusses the "Super" conferences and what their opinions are about who will be in what conference

Re: Conference shake ups continue

Agreed,  this season, if it continues the way it has could very well doom our football future because I would think that after the dust settles from this re-alignment, things will be pretty stagnant for a while as far as conference movement goes.  We need to announce a replacement coach and win some games ASAP to get our names thrown back into the expansion ring, if its even possible.  Selling more than 5K tickets to our new home opener probably wouldn't hurt either.

Why should we stop talking about it? The truth hurt sometimes. FIU beat Louisville, a BCS team, does Louisville suck this season? More than likely, yes. However their win over a BCS team is a lot more impressive than ours over a 1 win Minnesota team. Then the next week they go out and beat UCF. Even in previous years they've made it interesting against BCS teams, more than we ever have.

It's about money and television. They're located in Miami which will generate both for any conference. Ball State being located in Indiana and going 12-2 with wins over Indiana and Navy isn't impressive to me and in 2008 no one was looking at all this conference shuffling either.

I agree with Jab too… you have similar markets in the same league. If a conference wants one good South Florida Team right now, who would you pick?

Because right now FIU is looking far better. So we have a conference championship and a couple bowl wins… 4 years ago, and been crappy since. FIU has been upward all the way improving every season since MC has been there and achieving the conference championship and their first bowl win and then continue to do well this season by beating a BCS team and a good UCF team and getting Poll votes as well.

We don't know what will happen yet, what conference will disappear, what will happen to the rest. We might be in a SBC & CUSA merger or because we are just about 120 in the league, we could just be left behind. The TV market is only as good as the fan base, if no one wants to watch you, then the market means squat!

Re: Conference shake ups continue

And FIU still has a crappy and very small stadium and crap fan support. They had a 23,000 sell-out mostly due to the UCF fans came in force.

We have the three S's on our side and now I would take them anyday (Pres. Saunders, Coach S. and the Stadium)
