Joe Paterno's tenure at Penn State will soon end

That is literally the stupidest, most ignorant post I've ever read on this site. How can anyone possibly consider "culture" an option in this case. If you grow up getting into fights all the time, and continue to do so when you're older, it doesn't make it right. It only makes you immature.

I went to private school for most of my life and our rival school was an all boys Jesuit school. If anyone was molested there, they would be kicked out and thrown in jail in a heartbeat. To say that priests have made it a "way of life" is insulting to every person that practices that same religion.

Joe Pa should have stopped this whole situation a lot sooner. His career is tarnished now because of it and anyone that disagrees needs to remove the same blinders that show Howard still coaching as a necessity for FAU this season.

First, priests molesting children isn't a small issue its a pandemic.  You want me to post article after article about it?  Its a "culture".  I dont care if its insulting to you…its a fact.

My point wasn't that its ok to do it….the whole point of that was to some people it isn't a big a deal as it is to others.  I think its appaling…some people might think, like dog fighting, its not that big a deal.

You dont think the way you grow up affects your sense of right and wrong?  Ask an 18 year old kid from Vegas what he thinks of prostetution and gambling and then ask an 18 year old kid from Provo, Utah….you'll get two different answers for one simple reason…grew up around different cultures.

Actually, friends, I like to think that if I saw a man sexually abusing a boy, I'd go over and do my best to break it up. Then, after the boy was safe, I'd report it. And I think that's what the grad assistant should have done. How could a fear of job security outweigh the critical need to stop a child rape in progress – in the mind of any decent man?

This is pretty much how I feel.  I'd like to think I would have beat the tar out of that man and called the police.  What man has to "tattle" on something like a grown man raping a boy?  Ridiculous.

Just because you called names…here is the following:

Paterno went to school at:  As a Jesuit institution, Brooklyn Prep was noted for its religious values, classical roots (e.g., Latin and Greek)

Classic Greek used to practice:

Pederasty in ancient Greece - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pederasty in ancient Greece was a socially acknowledged relationship between an adult and a younger male usually in his teens.[1] It was characteristic of the Archaic and Classical periods.

Not sure I am as stupid as you called me.

This just in:

Paterno says he will retire "at end of the season…but:

The trustees could still force him to leave immediately

On a side note:

Check out Ken LaVicka's interview with former Penn State LB Rogers Alexander, who played under Sandusky, tonight at 6:35 PM on ESPN760. Jason Pugh Pugh will join Ken as they talk with Alexander about his time under the former coordinator and the scandal itself.

I have to side with Walty on this one.

I can't forgive the act or the individual who is responsible, but I can see where Paterno very well may have thought that he had addressed the situation in an appropriate manner at the time. We do not know exactly what he was told or in what context. I am in no way trying to downplay this issue, but I think we have to take into consideration Paterno's background and how his perspective probably varies significantly from most on this board. That is due to the fact that he was raised in a different era when unfortunately too many things were kept quiet (sexual orientation, sexual misconduct, infidelity, incest, alcoholism, divorce, etc.). Again, this does not excuse him, it just can help to put things in perspective.

Re: Joe Paterno's tenure at Penn State will soon end

Many have seen something "wrong" happen in private or business but have not had the courage to immediately step in and stop the action for fear of repercussions (job security in this case, physical injury, etc…). That is when you have to decide if your beliefs and morals - not just legality - are strong enough to "do the right thing" in spite of the consequences. This kid was not (he did report it at least), the Penn St. admin. was not, and this abuse happened overa nd over in the same place for how long? And nobody even knew?

And Cam did nothing wrong, and OJ was innocent.

I hope the Penn St. admin now steps up, does the right thing and fires all involved from the first report on. That and they better prepare for LOTS of HUGE lawsuits they most certainly will be facing.

And why is Sandusky not in jail yet?

Bottom line, when you see something bad happening you need to man up, have some balls and step in to stop the bad from 1) happening now and @)happening ever again if possible.

I feel bad for JoPa to go out like this but he should have manned up and beat the shit out of Sandusky the second he saw him in person again and kicked his ass off campus forever!

Re: Joe Paterno's tenure at Penn State will soon end

This happened before JoePa was involved…this is the police folks.

1998 _ Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.

Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6's mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."

Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong.

The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge.
