Can someone clear this up for me…. what happened?
Ok here it goes lol. This is directly from Deadspin because it's just easier that way. I'll try and make it as short as possible.
Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te'o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.
Kekua, 22 years old, had been in a serious car accident in California, and then had been diagnosed with leukemia. SI's Pete Thamel described how Te'o would phone her in her hospital room and stay on the line with her as he slept through the night.
Te'o would appear on ESPN's College GameDay to talk about the letters Kekua had written him during her illness. He would send a heartfelt letter to the parents of a sick child, discussing his experience with disease and grief. The South Bend Tribune wrote an article describing the young couple's fairytale meeting—she, a Stanford student; he, a Notre Dame star—after a football game outside Palo Alto.
Ok with me so far? Good! Now, a report comes out this afternoon from that website that's linked here, deadspin, saying that the whole thing is a hoax and none of it is true. Yes, his grandmother did die. That is true, but the rest apparently is a lie. Not only is Lennay Kekua not dead, she's not real.
From Deadspin "Background checks turn up nothing. The Stanford registrar's office has no record that a Lennay Kekua ever enrolled. There is no record of her birth in the news. Outside of a few Twitter and Instagram accounts, there's no online evidence that Lennay Kekua ever existed"
From ESPN.com - Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a news conference Wednesday night that coaches were informed by Te'o and his parents on Dec. 26 that Te'o had been the victim of what appeared to be a hoax. Someone using a fictitious name "apparently ingratiated herself" with Te'o, the school said, then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had died of leukemia.
From ESPN.com - "On the morning of Dec. 26, very early morning, Manti called his coaches to inform them that while he was in attendance at the ESPN awards show in Orlando, he received a phone call from a number he recognized as having been that he associated with Lennay Kekua," Swarbrick said. "When he answered it, it was a person whose voice sounded like the same person he had talked to, who told him that she was, in fact, not dead. Manti was very unnerved by that, as you might imagine."
Got it? No? still confused? Good, because so is the rest of America lol

He'll be the media darling. The next tebow, except he can actually play lol
If he can play he deserves to be the media darling:
See Alfred Morris (already a media darling) for example.
On a side note:
Why does it seem everyone hates on Tebow now that he is with the Jets?
Not picking on you jab, but this is like a rampant thing…just want to see a good justification for it.
The guy had a solid career in college, and then had some marked success at the next level until being traded.
The Jets STINK!
If Alfred doesn't meet the mark he met this year when returning to the field in 2013, hope folks don't cash in on him as well…
After all, there is no guarantee RGIII will be the same, and it is obvious that having him along side Morris played a big part in Alfred's success.

I feel bad for the kid because all he wants to do is play. He didn't ask to be traded to the Jets. Elway is a bit of an A-Hole and couldn't get rid of him fast enough

I actually don't dislike Tebow, I just don't think he should be used as a QB. Not getting why teams don't try and use him as a FB or TE. Meanwhile the last time the Bronco's won a playoff game he was their QB, not Manning.

They asked him if he wanted to go to the Jets or the Jaguars, he CHOSE the Jets.

Two people that don't know what it's like to be touched by Manti Te'o: 1) his fake dead girlfriend, and 2) Eddie Lacy..

No doubt the Tuiasasopo kid is behind this. The question is if Te'o was also in on it.
Could it be that Tuiasasopo, who knows Te'o and apparently is friends with him, was jealous of Te'o and did this without Te'o knowing in order to bring his own 'friend' down?
If so, I feel really bad for Te'o.
The other option is that Te'o is on this whole thing and what started as a white lie to the media spread into something much bigger that he couldn't back track on.
If this is the case he should be ashamed.
