Memphis to Big East - 2013

I've been seeing the same thing. A lot of talk about FIU getting the nod over us. I believe for Men's soccer they're already in Conference USA. Not that soccer is the be all to end all lol but it may help their case. Plus I see Pete Garcia being more proactive about a move to this new super conference then Angelos. Although, you never know. Just because we don't hear anything doesn't mean he hasn't already pitched the idea to the powers that be in CUSA

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Why do you think they have no chance of being successful in football?

I know the state legislature of Alabama doesn't really want UAB to have football and has been pushing for them to focus on research instead.
there you have it

I was just curious why you thought that.

Thanks for the point about the state legislature not wanting football…but has Florida's state legislature had anything to do with FAU football?  I guess I just dont know what thier role would be…

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

I think the state legislature voted down a new stadium or something like that. Its the same university as Alabama, just different campuses, and the BOT there is made up of people who represent both schools but its made up of 90% Alabama folks so UAB is screwed when they want to improve football they get shot down. Bama sees no need for any kind of in state competition.

I believe there was a "free UAB" movement born out of the stadium denial - the UAB fans want to be their own independent university separate from UA. I doubt they'll be successful but the University of Birmingham does have a nice ring to it.

Didn't UNC Charlotte do the same thing and now they're just simply known as Charlotte? Maybe I'm just making that up?? lol

Go back to the Sun Belt? UAB might as well just give up

I can't help but to laugh every time I hear this!

Well, then give up. You've achieved absolutely NOTHING as a member of Conf USA. You are a perennial door mat. You went to 1 bowl game in 2004 having lost to Hawaii.

"Five C-USA football teams went to bowl games last season, and they went 4-1. So did five teams from the Mountain West. They also finished with four wins in five tries. The Sun Belt sent three teams to the postseason and went 1-2."

Should've been 4 teams, WKU went 7-5 and 7-1 in conference. The Belt doesn't have as many bowl tie-ins.

Remove Houston and SMU who are going Big East and now you're down to 3 teams who went to a bowl game from C-USA (2-1).
Boise, TCU and Sd State are leaving the MWC and without them then there's only 2 MWC teams who went to a bowl game last season (0-2).

I'd love to hear from a knowledgeable UAB fan as to what it is exactly they've accomplished that they feel they're too good for the Belt?
