USA soccer National Team vs Brazil tonight!

The FAU kid that was drafted is he good? Is he American? If so, is he good enough to make the U-23 team?

What happened to Freddie Adu? There was all this hype around him and it seems like he disappeared?

Re: USA soccer National Team vs Brazil tonight!

As long as you support NCowl, that's all we need!  So thanks for the support and keep it up!  And no worries pal, it just bothers me sometimes when Americans would try to joke about us being bad in soccer, when in reality we are very good.
I posted on Twitter not to long after the Scotland game in Jax, "If that was not a statement game, then I don't know what is."  I've never seen the USMNT play like that before, such great patience, then a constint attack on the final third, full of off the ball movement.
Also, TB Rowdies > FTL Strikers
Freddie Adu has actually bounced back after a rally bad slump.  He know plays for Philadelphia in the MLS, and has been doing wonders up there.  He did very well in the U-23 World Cup in Canada in 2008 (I believe), but before and after that, he's been ice cold.  He should be back to his great form soon enough.  FYI, I'm not sure if you know, but many fans who just watch durring the WC, think that another young African American player named Maurice Edu, is Freddy.  Common mistake made by many, but know y'all know not to get confused!  :)

I know I've heard Adu but I knew they weren't the same person.

Who would you say is our best player? Altidore or Donovan? Wasn't Gooch hurt during the world cup? I'm sure that was a big loss for us. That guy is a beast

Re: USA soccer National Team vs Brazil tonight!

Gooch is a great player.  I'm not 100% sure, but when he got subbed in a couple nights ago in Jacksonville might have been his first game back in an USA jersey.  For Jozy (Boca kid for those that don't know) I haven't heard his name in a while, but he's still on the roster.  Maybe he'll get the start tonight?  For Landon, there's been A LOT of talk in the soccer world about his window closing.  The commentators addressed this in the Scotland game, and talked about a recent interview when LD was asked: Do you think now that you're getting older, that a player like Clint Dempsey, who was #3 in goals scored over in the English Premier League is the new face of US Soccer?  LD replied by saying that he is aware that his time is coming to an end, but he'll still give 100% to the team.  Rumors have been going around that LD has lost "love" in the game, and isn't as committed to the team as he has been in the past.  He then scored a hat trick.
So now it's hard to say who the number one player is.  LD has proved himself in the big matches, but Clint Dempsey has the skill set.  Though I can say that LD, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, and captain Carlos Bocanegra are the top players on the team.
Tonight should be exciting!

Tim Howard is amazing! He's fun to watch. A lot better than Tony Meole haha (may be before your time)

LD came up HUGE in the world cup. That penalty kick he scored. I got goose bumps. Thanks for all the info about soccer, definitely going to give it a shot tonight

Altidore was not in the previous matches because his club would not let him go until the last possible day they could keep him to.

Also: US soccer has come a long way in the past 4 years. Many people are starting to see why it is the world's favorite game. I also think in around 10-15 years we will be true contenders on the national level, because that is how serious we will get about the game.

Re: USA soccer National Team vs Brazil tonight!

Yeah, I still get goosebumps seeing his goal against Algeria, to advance us to the knockout stages when it seemed like there would be no hope.
Another FYI, last time we played Brazil, we lost 3-2 in the Confederation Cup (it's the official mini preview, where the best teams from each region play one year before the World Cup in the same stadiums that the World Cup will be in) after taking a 2-0 lead into half.  Oh what a heartbreaker.
US Soccer reminds me a lot of FAU Football, so much potential, we just need to get more fans on board.

Soccer, unfortunately will never catch on in the US. It may be the most popular sport in the world but just not enough action for US sports fans. After the Algeria goal fans crowded into the streets of Times Square chanting for USA. I know they have a loyal following (Sam's Army)

And we lose 4-1 any time USA shows sign of being great we lay a huge egg. It is like the world cup we have that big win then lose to some African country no one has ever heard of. I am sorry America likes winners and you avg American does not care for a win VS. Scottland. All i see is against the best we suck….no one cares it is playoff basketball time anyways.

USA has always been about bandwagon jumpers from professional sports to the nationals, we just love a winning team. Look how many people paid attention to US Swimming 4 years ago with the Phelps domination, the world cup, etc… anytime USA wins big, we will parade the streets!
