UWF to field football team in 2016
The Argonauts at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola will soon be getting their own football team. Added a couple pictures from around the net to spice up this post…
"UWF will hire a head football coach in Spring 2014, who will start recruiting the first football student-athletes that fall. The inaugural recruiting class will be enrolled in Fall 2015 and begin practices and scrimmages in preparation for the inaugural season in Fall 2016.
UWF reached an agreement with officials with the Community Maritime Park to play at Blue Wahoo Stadium.
The Blue Wahoos, the Double A affiliate with Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds, are currently the only sports team utilizing the 5,100-seat stadium, located right on Pensacola Bay.
The school’s long-term goal is to play on-campus"
The team will (at least initially) compete in the Gulf South Conference (Div.II), the same conference as Florida Tech, giving them a potential "Florida pride" rivalry.
But congrats on starting a football program up there and the long lerm plan for the on-campus stadium looks real nice!
