Alfred Morris at the NFL Combine

Personally I hope there are still some NFL guys who look at more than just pure numbers. After all track speed and game speed are pretty different. He did ok in his other drills, at least mid pack except for the 60 speed and did not do gret in lifting, sepecially if they consider him at fullback.
I hope he gets someones eye and a late pick but I gotta say it would surprise me.

I know all of you guys hate when I bring up facts to argue against your statements…but this is just flat out not true.

Tennessee's Pro Day when he registered a 4.71 40-yard dash, 4.50 short shuttle, 32-inch vertical leap and 9'7" broad jump.

Those are the numbers for Arian Foster who a lot of people consider the BEST running back in the NFL.  Guys like Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey have zero future in the NFL because its not all about speed.

Ok, well with that logic, then you're saying Alfred won't get drafted.

I belive he is saying just the opposite?

Please correct me if wrong Walty…which I'm sure you will!

He also signed with Houston as a UFA. I believe Alfred Will get drafted but it may not be till the 6th or 7th round

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Haha.  I am saying you dont need track speed to be a good NFL runningback.  I have no clue when Alfred will get drafted.

If owlcountry40 is saying that it hurts your draft status to run a 40 in the 4.6 range instead of 4.5 than yea I guess there is some truth to that.  But if he is saying you have to have 4.5 speed to be good in the NFL than no I dont agree with that.

I would agree with that notion as well, and never thought any differently…but in Alfred's case, was just saying that speed isn't everything, as you have clearly pointed out is the case in other examples as well.

Style of running, ability to move the ball by way of YAC, and blocking ability is just as important, IMO.

Which he can do, and probably does better than a lot of guys who will hope to make it that day.

Re: Alfred Morris at the NFL Combine

Big help to him is the blocking issue as he came up as a fullback. Most of these "burners" at the combine have NEVER had to block in their careers as the feature backs in college. Heck, I was shocked at thier size , many 5'8" to 5'10", basically the size we are going after now! ;D

While these are all great examples, I could provide tons of players who improved or faltered their draft stock because of what they ran in the 40. I don't think anyone was saying that Morris wasn't going to have an NFL career because of his poor time, but it certainty didn't help his draft status.

Look at Johnathan Dweyer. "Dwyer entered the 2010 NFL Draft and was at one point considered to be a top 30 prospect and in the top 3 running backs in the draft according to Todd McShay." Then he ran a 4.68 and got drafted in the 6th round.
