Alfred Morris not likely to see carries drop, fantasy owners shouldn't worry

Great Pic of Morris!

Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris didn't see his carries drop for lack of confidence in his abilities, according to Mike Shanahan.

The Washington Redskins didn't abandon the run game because it wasn't working against the New York Giants. They abandoned the run game because that was the plan all along, at least according to head coach Mike Shanahan, via The Washington Post.

Morris had just 11 carries in the team's loss to its NFC East rivals. Shanahan said that the Giants' gameplan was "to take Alfred away," and that all of the option runs for quarterback Robert Griffin III were by design and a product of that fact.

"We believe in the running game," Shanahan said. Morris carried the ball just two times in the second half, and Shanahan also blamed that on the fact that the Redskins were losing and had penalties on the offensive side of the ball. Whatever the reason, it sounds like it's not likely to affect Morris going forward.

Fantasy Impact: Morris has been a productive back in fantasy football this season, even if he hasn't been nearly as good as his rookie campaign. Morris has carried 206 times for 996 yards and six touchdowns. He only had 26 yards against the Giants but he's expected to shoulder a full load going forward. Fantasy owners need not worry.

From Scout:

"Alf has been on a steady four-year decline. He has seen both his yardage and yards per carry decline in each of his NFL seasons. In 2015, he managed just 751 yards on 3.7 yards per carry and one touchdown. It is not entirely clear if his decreasing production is caused by a physical decline or an eroding offensive line. He was also a much better fit in the Shanahan system. It will be a shock if Morris is back in Washington next season. Perhaps he could fit in Gary Kubiak's system in Denver."

He needs to go to a team with a power run game, or dual threat QB...he played well as a compliment off of RGIII.

And that friggin O they ran this year, an idiot could defense it.

1st down; Alfred alone 7 yards deep in backfield for a hand off up the middle. NO lead blocker or other run option for play fakes.

when that play (singular) fails -

2nd down; Alfred out, other back in on 2nd a long for an obvious pass play.

3rd down, empty backfield for ANOTHER SUPER obvious pass play. Cannot even play action pass AND no blocker to pick up blitzes OR be an outlet option!

With them implying Alfred slowing down, the new rookie back averaged LESS per carry than Alfred.

Al had ZERO fumbles let alone fumbles lost where rookie back fumbled 4 or 5 times on far fewer carries!

He will be better off elsewhere IMHO!

Totally agree, Georgia.

Alfred would get the ball 90% of the time on first down and everyone on D knew he was getting it. Not difficult to defend.

Skins seem to think they are better off with a rb with a LOWER yards per carry who fumbles A LOT and is hurt A LOT!

Good luck to ya Alfred, will miss calling them the FREDSKINS! Coulda renamed then THAT and ended the so called controvery. See Seminoles, Black Hawks, Indians, Braves….nobody screaming at them to change like the are the Redskins.

Alfred fumbled 4 times in his rookie year (1 less than Jones), 5 times in 2013, 2 times in 2014. Alfred will find a team that he fits their style of play better than the 'skins.

He'd be a great fit for the Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill doesn't suck as bad when the run game is solid.
