Titans Open Preseason Slate Saturday; Keep an Eye Out for Rusty

Jab979 said

Come on. I love rusty as much as you guys but your comparing apples to tomatoes. They both might be red but they're no where close to being the same.

Rusty is putting up decent numbers against 3rd and 4th string guys. Some of whom may not even be on a team when final cuts are made.

I want him to succeed and do well but only fair way to compare is to see how he does against first teamers and starters on the other teams like locker has. Plus no team likes to admit their 1st round choice was a bust. Locker's going to get countless opportunities to succeed

+1  Sometimes the worse thing that could ever happen to the career of a back up QB is actually getting playing time.  It can really mess up your future…Enjoy Rusty during Exhibition Season, Root for him to make team, pray he doesn't get in the game.  He won't be around too long if he becomes a regular.

Ouch! Pretty damn harsh and LOTS of negativeness (is that a word?) there. This is his third year in the NFL coming up, he may just have learned and gotten better. Sure as heck hope he and his family beleive in him more than some Owl fans!

Damn, that is rough. There have been many very good careers  by QB's that were historically back ups. Rusty is good enough to be there other wise he would be gone . The NFL  GM's know what they are doing .  Rusty needs to keep doing what he is doing.  Work hard and be prepared in case he needs to be put in. That is his job  and Rusty is smart enough know that. To say if he were to play he wouldn't last long is nonsense.

Re: Titans Open Preseason Slate Saturday; Keep an Eye Out for Rusty

It's not being harsh, it's reality. I didn't say he wasn't good enough to be in the NFL. The reality remains he'll likely never be more than a 3rd string QB.

"There have been many very good careers  by QB's that were historically back ups" back ups, yes. Rusty isn't a back up. He's battling for a job right now. It's easy for us as fans of FAU and fans of Rusty to say oh he's going to be great. We don't see him in practice, we don't know what to look for in a QB to tell what makes him elite and what makes him no more than a 3rd string QB.

These people are with him every day they know everything about him, that's why they are coaches in the NFL.

I'll always be grateful for what Rusty did, he put us on the map and he was a great ambassador for this program while we were growing. He's also a very nice kid and I wish him and his family the best. Making $492 K a year holding a clip board is not a bad way to earn a living

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Keep up the good work Rusty! Once you become an expert on running opposing teams offenses you too can have a career like Charlie Whitehurst, 8 years in the league, started 4 games…$4mm per year.

Best job in America

Nah but "negativity" is a word. Lots of negativity there.

Anyway, I'm not so sure that Rusty's clipboard-holding days are infinite. I've seen a couple places suggesting they cut him loose if he can't be a realistic #2.

Thanks OwlDoc, just came off the top of my head - ha ha! And that is a good point about keeping a "career No. 3 qb, granted by todays standards he does not make much - unlike either Locker or Hasselbeck. But to me the real question is how much are the Titans prepared to pay the back-up qb?

When is the last time an NFL Team had only two QB's??

Just curious…

It's rare. Especially with possible injuries. Even if rusty is let go by tenn, someone will grab him. Look at Philly, if Vick misses some time they're going to need a 3rd QB
