FAU/FIU the future of the SunBelt...

This is a post from a VERY knowledgeable SunBelt poster from stAte who has some ties to the confrence leadership.

I found his comments very illuminating to our futures and our struggles.

Breaking News !

The Sun Belt's future is sitting in South Florida. Right now the two schools have atrocious attendance but the freshman class of 2005 were the first group to complete their education at the schools with them playing FBS football the entire time. In other words, the four year plan grads at FIU and FAU this May are the only alumni of the schools who were there with nothing but FBS football. Every other alumnus of each school was either there when there was no football or playing I-AA, or just getting started in FBS. Those schools honestly can't sweat their support for another 15 years until they develop a critical mass of alums who identify with football at the school and have advanced far enough in their personal and professional lives to be serious supporters. To me that makes trading them for Idaho, NMSU and USU a good deal, we replaced three schools who play second or third banana in their small population states for two hatchlings in a large metro area noted for recruiting.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

They might have a point when talking about atrocious attendance, but they have to consider that FAU has 27K students and no football stadium on campus. FAU averaged 16K seats throughout the season. On the contrary, FIU has 39K students and a brand new football stadium ON campus; however they average 15K seats during the season.
Both schools started pretty much the same year, but in my opinion, they cannot be compared in attendance because it is pretty obvious that FIU has an advantage in the student body and the stadium. I don't think FAU's attendance is atrocious, at least we average more having 12K less students and no football stadium on campus.
Also the article states that it might take 15 years for these 2 schools to attract more fans. Just give FAU a football stadium on campus and over 30K students to average more than 20K seats per game.
