Faufashow do you see our numbers going up this year
I think we'll be bigger, but I don't see us breaking 100, I think we'd be extremely lucky to make it to 75. But hopefully I'll be wrong!

I just checked today and we have about 30 people signed up. There aren't any names that I don't recognize so we haven't gained many new people yet, but obviously its still early and there are people that I know are marching but haven't registered yet. Freshman can't register until after orientation and hopefully we'll have a strong freshman group. We had a pretty solid group last year, so hopefuly things will turn out good.

Re: FIU Band In Jeopardy; Faces Elimination
All the schools in the state of Florida I believe let transient students participate in their marching bands. In order to do this FAU has to approve them for transient student status or they can try to enroll as a "non degree seeking" student. Either way in order to be in our band you MUST be registered and pay for the class. We actually had a girl in colorguard last year who didn't get approved for transient status and couldn't march because she couldn't enroll in the class.
We do not have many non full time FAU students in our band, but the ones who aren't usually transfer into FAU after community college or just truly love to march. We have brothers that take the bus or train like 45min just to come to practice (they I believe are non degree seeking).
I hope the FIU band can find some way to get back out there and perform! Good Luck!

I hope to GOD that if this ever starts to happen to FAU you (the fans) will not just sit back and watch something like this happen. I hope you would try to help us (the band students).
Not on this watch…you guys rock!
We're there for you!

FIU's band used to be MUCH bigger, almost double what they are now. They have gotten smaller every year for the past four years, or so it seems. We also have transient students from BCC and PBCC and people do this simply because they want to continue marching after high school is over. Why don't they get rid of the dance team and half the cheerleading squad first? I may be biased, but the dance team doesn't add much to football games, basketball games are a bit better, but without a band its just not the same. I think FAU will be safe from cutting it's band…i hope.

Agreed! No offense fasho, but this is mostly a male dominated board. We love the band, but you probably don't want to go that far. We may just vote to have the dance team play kazoos instead ;)

I know a lot of people on this board won't like this but depending on how things are the Marching Owls may not travel to this away game out of respect for their band.
