I don't know, I think it looks pretty good.  It's more of a traditional, classic style.

It's obvious that some professionals are paid too much for what they do.

No, look, I'm sure FIU said to the (re)designers: "We like the old look but we want you to tweak it a little bit." So that's what happened. You got the same logo, new mouth and new arm.

I still don't understand the awkward shadows on the panther though.

There's a lot more that goes into designing a logo (or any branding project) than just the design.  There are surveys, focus groups, testing several designs to determine what people like, what they think it represents, etc.  I'm certain there were several other designs that we probably will never see.

Very valid point…i ran into the same "monster" while at FAU…too many coooks in the kitchen…too many "opnions"…too much "noise in the channel"…

There's a lot more that goes into designing a logo (or any branding project) than just the design.  There are surveys, focus groups, testing several designs to determine what people like, what they think it represents, etc.  I'm certain there were several other designs that we probably will never see.
