Bobby Petrino to W. Kentucky
Cristobal is not a good coach great recruiter not a good coach with the talent on those FIU teams should have won a lot more games. The said
Petrino will be named coach at UCONN at the conclusion of next season….calling it. Honestly, WKU would have been better off going for Cristobal.

For once we agree
As I have said before he is a great recruiter but is not a good coach and bad game day coach. What we did to them in 2010 and what happened in last years bowl game were perfect examples.
In my opinion he is going to have a hard time landing another D1 head coaching position at this point. He might have to take a step back in order to move forward.
GO OWLS!

Belt schools are nuts to pay $850K to one year wonders (Mahlzon, Petrino) who are ONLY in it for the $$$! Gonna change entire conference salary structure and I don't think they have a media deal to back it do they?
You're absolutely right that it's going to change the conference salary structure. But maybe that's a good thing. If you wanna stop being a stepping stone and start being a destination, you have to fork out more cash. According to this article, the "average compensation in 2011 is $1.47 million" for a football coach while the salaries in the SBC ranged from $200K to $850K. Obviously the closer the Belt gets to the average, the better the coaches they can attract (and retain, in theory).
What's remarkable to me is how you go from paying a head coach something like $300K-400K with modest increases and then all of a sudden you have the money to pay them $800K. Where does that money come from and why didn't you have it a year or two before? Did you really make that much more in those two years? Or are you dipping into the University Foundation for it, which is a precarious thing to do long-term?

And with us moving into CUSA next year OUR salary structure WILL HAVE to upgrade BIG TIME immediately if you want to retain let alone have happy Coaches in ALL sports.

WKU really needs to be invited to CUSA.

And poor Taggert, an WKU alum who had to endure the bad days and watches a jerk get his old job for almost twice the pay! Belt schools are nut to pay $850K to one year wonders (Mahlzon, Petrino) who are ONLY in it for the $$$! Petrino and Malzahn are far from one year wonders. Look at their body of work. Also, who ISN'T in it for the money? Wake up, CFB is all about the $$$ now.

I don't believe that. I think he was holding out for a bigger school & offer.

Which DOES NOT make it right and IS something that needs to change, the worshi of the almighty Dollar over all other humn atributes such as honor, respect and dedication. People like Tuberville are awful "role models".
And "one year wonders" was a reference to their length of employment at schools like ASU or WKU. When someone offers that $16M for 4 years they will INSTANTLY and IMMEDIATELY bolt, or even $8M for 4 years, guaranteed! No matter what they have told thier school, players or prospective recruits and families.
