Does anyone know if stadiums need to meet same hurricane standards as new homes do?
This stadium looks like its pure aluminum.
Aluminum would be extremely expensive and not very strong. I'm sure its galvanized steel or some kind of treated steel or alloy. The environment is soooo tough on anything metal down there. One of the first things I noticed when I moved up here is things like BBQ grills, bicycles, lawn mowers and anything else made of metal lasts much much longer.

also, aren't most window shutters made out of aluminum? :D
Possibly… but what football stadium is made from window shutters?
Thus, my point. 8)
It just looks flimsy so that made me wonder if football stadiums down here must pass hurricane codes.

The UCF stadium is the similar and ours will also be similar.

Indeed. They're also going to be building some student housing around the stadium in a "new urbanism" style that will include retail… sound familiar? Guess you got to do what you got to do to compete for students.
A winning team in a new stadium would surely help. I'm still a little confused where the funding for FIU's stadium came from, since I never heard anything about donors…. and why couldn't we go with that same route to fund our stadium?
Well, from the article on Palm Beach Post today, it seems you guys are going to do pretty much the same type of financing that FIU did, by floating bonds, but with an approximately $21-$22 million more in debt issuance, since Mr. Kian explained the goal of raising $5-$6 million with the rest financed with the bond issuance. I also saw the pricing for FAU's club seats and suites in the flyer used to lure investors, and your prices are a lot more expensive than what FIU's stadium are offering (FAU Club Seat is $1,750.00 vs $500.00 for FIU's 1400 Club Seats), thus able to raise more money per seat and overall for the repayment of bonds.
