I just see this stadium issue as a major hurdle in the continued development of this program.

Same. The signing classes will only get incrementally better instead of leaping forward.

The stadium goes up and that will change.

I don't know if it means anything but…
Every day, I park in the long runway (Lot 5) that's part of the site for the future stadium. There are a bunch of wood stakes that have been posted and the stakes have a bright orange wrappings around the top.

Like this (online picture, not from the FAU site):

Aren't those associated with construction? I only noticed them around the area where the stadium would be built. There are also arrows drawn on the sidewalks with triple-digit numbers. I thought I saw surveying equipment the other day as well. Are they… prepping the site to knock down the trees and clear the way for the stadium?

I pray your right.

Even showing land being cleared proves that the stadium is in progress.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

That seems to be a good sign. They are preparing for something. Hopefully it is the stadium.

The stakes are a sign of how ridiculous the lack of a stadium has become.

Man, Cristobal is doing great things for that program. That class on paper looks ridiculously strong. As said previously, FAU needs this stadium fast. If this continues, we may start falling behind on the field as well.

I looked at both recruiting classes, I don't see the big advantage of FIU's class. It looks good but I don't see the superiority.

Their biggest LB recruit is Mars at 5-11, 205. The 2 others are 6-0 < 200lbs, around Corey Small's size.

According to Ted, FAU wanted bigger LBs. The FAU coaches didn't pursue Mars for that reason. I'm sure he's good, the  FAU coaches wanted more size.

FAU got a 6-9 310 OL. If the kid is very coachable, he should be awesome in a year or two.

I think FAU did good this year.

Compare FAU to the rest of the SBC on ESPN.com and you will see that FAU is far below the other schools in terms of the number of ranked players and player grades. FAU has two players that are ranked by ESPN and FIU has 10 or more. I am not referring to stars, but to number rankings at their position and ESPN ranks guys well into the 200s. That to me says something.

That said, I still think this is a pretty strong class for FAU.

ESPN.com bought scout.com and uses their rankings.  Rankings…stars…it's all the same meaningless garbage.  Do you really think any of these sites know the difference between the 40th ranked LB and the 80th?  You think someone actually went and saw 200 highschool TEs and ranked them in some scientific manner?  For these sites it's all about money and selling subscriptions.  If you want to know what kind of a prospect a kid is, don't look at stars, look at who else is after him.  It's a much better way to assess a player then some random rank a for profit site assigns.

Thank you for that point…and BTW, here is the list they have at present:

What, is it 9:43PM on signing day??

BTW, Flash has been off the list for over a week…are they in "the know"?  Not form a recruiting perspective, and certainly not from an evaluation perspective.

Rivals:

Wayne Times

One offer, besides FIU, to an NCAA Div 1 school.  Three stars.

Kenneth Dillard

No offers except FIU.  Three stars.

Rupert Bryan

No offers except FIU.  Three stars.

Thatcher Starling

Offers: FIU (beat em) ULM (beat em) WMU (beat em in a BOWL) UAB (beat em) AZ, and Wyoming.  Three stars.

Please stop the madness of "stars".  It means truly nothing, and that is the ONLY thing that places FIU ahead of us head to head in class rankings?

I don't think someone sees all of these players, but there are people who get paid good money to track recruits. Hell, Phil Steele ranks into the 400s and I am sure he has not seen tape on every kid at every position on his list.

I will argue that there is probably a difference between someone who is ranked say 50 and a guy who is not ranked when the list does go into the 200s. I personally do not by into most of it, but classes are ranked somehow and at the end of every signing day people start to talk about how their teams stacks up with other teams so we have to have some way to gain insight. I believe that player rankings are more indicative than stars, but they are not the entire answer. Just look at this thread and the fact that the FIU kid is rated #8 by Rivals and in the 70s by ESPN.

According to Ted Hutton, there was more excitment and optimism at the Oxley today than in past years. We should go with that as an indication of what this recruiting class is capable of.

No doubt it is the best class yet and we have said the same thing every year the inception of the program. I think it is a good class, but I am no expert on any of these kids so like most of us I have to rely on the information that is available.
