Mario Cristobal- Front Runner for the Pitt job?
Why turn down a promotion? Like someone else said, coaching is a job and who turns down a promotion that will at LEAST double your income?
Is he really THAT good of a guy? Sure, he says he wants his family to live in Miami but I'm sure they could afford spending half the year here like everyone else from NJ. Is he really that good of a guy that he's OK with making several hundred thousand dollars a year instead of a couple million?
Hmmm…

Cristobal turns Florida International around, and himself into a coaching commodity
A commodity??
After this season, everyone will see what he is:
A guy who can't coach, and got by on one player.

+1
He did such a great job prepping them for their bowl game vs. a 6-6 Marshall team that DOMINATED then while he played footsie trying to get the Pitt or Rutgers jobs. THAT performance cost him the PITT job IMHO!
Guess we will learn more now with TY and the starting QB gone. They will still be good in the Belt though I beleive. But next year, even in the weakened CUSA?

Well, he's had two major programs (Rutgers and Pitt) interested in him since he started at FIU. Both were Big East programs at the time, which we all know is a step up from SBC. So yeah, I'd say he was a commodity… certainly not in the way Urban Meyers is a commodity, but still.
That said I do agree that FIU was much better than it had been due to Hilton and the Mississippi State QB transfer they had (Wesley Carroll). Both were good players for them.
Without them, I'm not sure how they'll do this season. #1 is highly questionable. Ark State I see, FIU… eh

My biggest fear going into this year, is Pelini's coaching prowess. he's got some talent around him, which is great, but he hasn't run a team yet on the field and we all know that Mario stumbled a lot in the beginning. Time will tell…
