IF he wins the job, he'll get LSU, Ohio State, and Oklahoma State to get the hang of things. What better way to enter college ball then by playing the absolute best? I think by the time he gets into sunbelt play he'll be a good qb. Might not be GREAT, but he'll have made some necessary improvements.

Question:

Why did he receive no interest (aside from Troy) from a Bowl Subdivision school?

His offers were to Tennessee Martin and Murray State…both "former" 1AA schools…although they still are to me…

Well, it think part of it is that he may have been playing against poor quality teams which made it easy for him. Also, his completion percentage was still only 74% which is good, but it's not like 84% or 94%. From what I understand, they threw  way more than they ran by a considerable margain. I think the team ran for 44 yards a game with 500+ yards passing per game.

Poor quality, maybe, but then how did his team get to the state final?

Here's something I just found on SunBelt recruiting. Of course, FAU will not rank well here because Howard does not release any details.

Troy headed for Sun Belt recruiting crown

UNT has been cleaning up on the recruiting front the last few months and has one last spot to give after the addition of Northwest Mississippi C.C. defensive end Alonzo Horton.

By the way, look for that last spot to go to a junior college offensive lineman.

Any way, like a lot of experts out there I am ready to call the race for the Sun Belt Conference recruiting title. And your winner is … I can feel the anticipation building. … Troy.

That's not really a big surprise. Troy has cleaned up through the years, which is one reason the Trojans always seem to be sitting at the top of the Sun Belt standings while featuring a first-day NFL Draft prospect or two.

The Trojans have been at it again this year and are sitting at No. 72 nationally in Rivals.com's national rankings with UNT just behind at 76. The difference? Troy's ranking is based on the first 16 players who committed to play for the Trojans, while UNT's ranking is based on the 24 players it has committed.

With just one spot left to give, UNT won't make up a deficit that will continue to grow as Troy finishes out its class. The Trojans picked up three more recruits on Friday, including three-star wide receiver Charles Reeves, who also had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He will give Troy a big boost when he is counted in its total tomorrow.

UNT has its best recruiting class since at least the 2000 season when the Mean Green landed Brandon Kennedy, Scott Hall and Jonas Buckles, among others. There are seven three-star recruits in UNT's class, including offensive lineman Troy Franklin of Celina, who some sharp-eyed Mean Green fans noticed was upgraded by one star recently. Troy had four three-star players counted in its ranking as of Friday and will have five with the addition of Reeves.

Figuring out recruiting rankings is a little like pondering calculus, and I was never very good at math, but the simple explanation for Troy ranking higher than UNT with fewer three-star players is the Trojans picked up some bonus points in the Rivals.com system based on the state rankings and national position rankings of its recruits. That's not really all that important.

What is interesting is that UNT gave Troy, a consistent winner under Larry Blakeney, a run despite finishing 2-10 last season. You have to give UNT head coach Todd Dodge credit for making the recruiting race competitive in a year when the Mean Green was never a factor in the chase for the Sun Belt title.

I don't see anyone passing Troy or UNT at this point, so I guess the Mean Green takes over if the Trojans are unable to fulfill their duties as recruiting champions.

I know there are some Mean Green fans out there who fancy themselves recruiting experts, which I do not. So be sure to post your thoughts. Are you happy to see UNT finish No. 2 in the unofficial Sun Belt recruiting wars this season?

IMO stars dont mean jack…

Raw talent, desire, effort, and COACHING mean the world.

How many three stars did FAU have the last two years?

How many stars was Rusty? Gent? Harmon? Rose? Faulk? Pinnick? List goes on…

I dont think Dodge is a college coach…prove me wrong…

Troy:

Blakeney has proved he belongs there…however continuity is a BIG factor when recruiting…and thats why Howard doesnt recruit JC as a general rule…i think  Troy would fair better going to a traditiona l model with 5 years players…but to do so, you have to sacrafice a year, or two even, up front - as FAU did…we could have taken the short route as well…

Anyway, well see how things pan out over the next two years…

I did not mean to be critical of FAU's ranking, but just wanted to point out that it is not based on all the facts.

Dodge will be one hell of a college coach.  Most programs go through a lull after a coaching change while the coach is implementing his "style" of play…North Texas will be an offensive machine in the future.  North Texas has good facilities and a nice campus, he will be able to recruit as well.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

Something that effects rankings is balance of the recruiting class and how many recruits commit EARLY to a school.

Both Troy & North Texas had a bunch sign early, FAU tends to have later commits which effects the ranking a lot & last year class was a trageted class (not balanced) thus lower ranking.

As long as the recruited players make a difference & preform on the field, that to me is the most important aspect - who cares where we are ranked right now, looks good on paper, but does it relate to on field success.

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

I just updated all the teams for the Sun Belt recruiting commits and Troy & North Texas had a big week.

Here is the breakdown so far:

[table][tr][td]
Troy             18, 7 are JC transfers
North Texas   22, 4 are JC transfers
FIU               8
MTSU           9, 2 are JC transfers
ASU             6, 5 are JC transfers
Lafayette     16, 3 are JC transfers
Monroe        17, 7 are JC transfers
WKU            17, 14 are JC transfers

*** ULL had one player de-commit during the week - Joe Duhon

Re: Recruiting around the Belt

I just added Western to the list of teams, I figured since they are in transition and will become full members next year of the Belt it was worth keeping track with what they are doing this year, especially since we will be playing them in this season.

Looks like they went after a bunch of transfers in the hope of being competitive right away.

I don't have a problem with schools signing transfers, but when rely mostly on transfers & it looks like most school in the belt has them, how does it effects the make-up & chemistry of a team?  I would think that it takes a full season for players to adjust to each other, the program & the system.  One reason I see to go after transfers is the upgrade in talent that it provides, but at what cost.  Troy has done well doing this, but have balanced it with strong recruiting classes, Western is trying to bring an instant upgrade in talent level and at what cost?  Should be interesting to see how it will unfold for them.
