OT on the way…

In a CRAZY ending to regulation, WKU falls apart defensively down the stretch of the fourth quarter after leading by 13 to start the period.

Allows the Warhawks to march 90 yards for the go ahead TD with just under a minute remaining…

HOWEVER, the Toppers take the ensuing kick off for a wild ride all the way back to the ULM 9…Rainey punches it in from four yards out to apparently put it away 28-21?

NO.

ULM immediately drives it right back down the field with 27 seconds remaining for what would be the third TD in under a minute to force OT.

:o

Yes, this is the Sun Belt.

FINAL:

WKU 31  ULM 28 OT

Toppers intercept ULM TD attempt in the extra period, while connecting on a 24 yard FG in their attempt to win it.

Hilltoppers have won four straight for the first time since 2005, and improve to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in the SBC.

ASU is absolutely taking it to UNT with the Mean Green down 31-0 at Halftime.

The Red Wolves outgained UNT 365 -82.

We should be glad for the extra week to prepare for them, because the way they are playing we will certainly need it.

Re: Sun Belt Football: Games for Week of 10/29/2011

For the first time, the Sun Belt truly seems to be anyone's game (other than FAU). The weakest teams - WKU, UNT and FIU - have improved and everyone but us seems to have a decent shot at winning on Saturday.

That said, I think we'll see FAU's best conference play all season against FIU. People talk about "playing for pride" now that we're out of the post-season/conference title picture but really the only pride game would be vs FIU. And maybe Troy.

THINK MAYBE THE D SHOULD BE READY FOR A HURRY UP SPREAD O THIS WEEK! PATHETIC EXCUSES FROM THE D VS. MTSU IMHO, THAT IS WHY WE WENT TOTHE 3-4 IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS IT NOT?

HALFTIME:

ULL 21  MTSU 0

Looks like the Blue Raiders hurry up and pass has been a non factor against the Cajuns' D thus far.

FINAL:

UNT 14  ASU 37

The Red Wolves pound out 540 yards on the night despite two turnovers.

On a side note, was not aware that Josh Jarboe is now back in the Belt after being booted from the Troy roster. More details on that former discussion Here if interested.

Ironically his bio with ASU does not mention any affiliation with Troy.

Anyway, Jarboe had a team leading seven receptions for 96 yards for the Red Wolves.

FINAL:

ULL 45  MTSU 20

Cajuns double up their 21-0 first half advantage and then some…total yards were not indicative of the final score with the Blue Raiders only trailing 526-415 overall. But the turnover battle was lost 3-1 behind two costly 1st Quarter picks from normally reliable Logan Kilgore; both of which resulted in ULL scores.

Of note:

The Cajuns also racked up 338 net yards by foot for the night.

Re: Sun Belt Football: Games for Week of 10/29/2011

Sun Belt Players of the Week for Week Nine…

Offensive

Alonzo Harris (Louisiana-Lafayette, Fr., RB)

Harris helped guide the Ragin’ Cajuns offense to a season-best 45 points in the win over Middle Tennessee rushing for a career-best 189 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Harris’ 189 yards is the third most by a freshman running back in school history, and was two yards more than the highest team game-high prior to Saturday night (187 at FIU). Harris is the first Cajuns running back to post a 100-yard game since 2009 after tallying 140 yards by halftime. His first touchdown, which came on a four-yard run in the second half, was the score the broke the Blue Raiders back as it gave the Cajuns a 21-0 lead going into the half.

Defensive

Melvin White (Louisiana-Lafayette, Sr., DB)

White posted his first multi-takeaway contest of the season and had seven tackles, all solo, in the Cajuns 45-20 win at Middle Tennessee. White helped spark the offense early as he came up with a big interception in the first quarter. After an Aaron Spikes fumble gave Middle Tennessee great field position on the ULL 38, White picked off Kilgore on the very next play at the four yard line to keep the game scoreless. The Cajuns then scored on the ensuing drive to take the lead 7-0. Later in the first half, with the game still hanging in the balance, White posted his first fumble recovery of the season. With the Blue Raiders driving deep in Cajuns territory and the score 14-0, White scooped up a Tavarres Jefferson fumble at the ULL nine yard line to end the threat.

Special Teams

Jack Griffin (FIU, Jr., K)

Jack Griffin tied a career-best with three field goals against the Troy Trojans, propelling FIU to a 23-20 overtime victory. Already with a 32-yard field goal under his belt, Griffin kicked a 20-yarder that tied the score for the Panthers with 3:31 to go in regulation. Griffin then gave FIU the victory with a 22-yard field goal in overtime. For the season, Griffin has 15 field goals, which is just two behind his own FIU single-season record.
