Sun Belt Football: Games for Week of October 27, 2012

Watching this game, you realize this isn't the SunBelt that FAU won in 2007.  This is a MUCH tougher conference.

Thought the exact same thing tonight. SBC is getting better all around.

And I know a lot of these teams have new coaches… wondering how many of them rose to dominance in the first season under a new coach and how that compares to us. Is it always a process for SBC teams or did we just get lucky?

If they qualify and get selected this will be ULM's FIRST bowl game ever (5-7 and 4-8 Berry's 1st two years)! We know how badly FIU started out under Cristoballs, and WKU under Taggert for that matter. ULL may not get back to a bowl this year (4-3 now but still @ULM, UF and FAU and host WKU!) with NO D! So Arky St. really the only one with instant success under Freeze and now Mahlzon - who will be gone to the SEC too if they continue to win).
Remember the posts early on worrying about losing Pelini if we had a good 1st year under him - pretty funny stuff now! Gotta give ANY coach time to build, especially when handed a SUNK (not sinking) ship like he was handed here at FAU. Go Owls!

FINAL:

North Texas 21  Middle Tennessee 38

The Mean Green had a productive day in yardage, employing an evenly balanced attack. But four turnovers killed any chance of upsetting the Blue Raiders.

Logan Kilgore was 20-of-30 for 349 yards for MTSU, and rushed for a 45 yard score as well.

FINAL:

Troy 27  Florida Atlantic 34

The Owls (2-6, 1-4) end a 14 game record setting slide in dramatic fashion as they drive 74 yards in nine plays with 1:49 on the clock for the winning score.

Graham Wilbert tosses four touchdowns for the contest, and the players take the filed after the game to give Pelini his first post game celebration bath.

Troy moves to 4-4 overall, and 3-3 in SBC play with the loss.

FINAL:

Western Kentucky 14  FIU 6

The wheels have officially fallen off the Panther (1-8, 0-5) bus.

Despite holding the Hilltoppers to just 289 total yards, they commit four turnovers and can manage only 86 yards rushing on 35 attempts.

FIU QB Jake Medlock struggled to find accuracy as well, going 15-of-30, while RB Antonio Andrews dug in for 158 yards on 28 carries for WKU (6-2, 3-1).

With our win, FIU is now the lone remaining school without a Sun Belt victory this season

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Oh, and we can officially be removed from the bottom 10! FIU will be all alone

So WKU is now bowl eligible and FIU is well……….NOT! Think the CUSA gurus are wondering about their choice about now? Oh, and N. Texas lost today too…sweet for the Belt!

FINAL:

South Alabama 24  Louisiana-Monroe 38

The Warhawks were the third team to win at home on Saturday, keeping themselves atop the Sun Belt, and in the driver's seat at 4-0 in league play. They also became bowl eligible having now achieved an overall mark of 6-2.

But Jaguar fans should continue to be proud of their team, who are in the midst of a transitional year, and continue to show that they can be competitive in the league already.

ULM QB Kolton Browning was proficient, hitting 66% of his targets; which included a game high 126 yard performance from senior wide receiver Brent Leonard.

Field position was also an edge Louisiana-Monroe enjoyed, having notched a 28.3 yard average on kick-off returns.

USA (2-6, 1-3) had four receivers with 33 or more yards for the game, and Demetre Baker led all rushers with 115 yards on the ground.

Re: Sun Belt Football: Games for Week of October 27, 2012

I was reading some of the conversations from the WKU vs FUI game on ESPN. Many of the posters were commenting about FIU players following WKU off the field possibly to start a fight? Has anyone else heard of this? In addition, attendance was very poor (not that ours was any better I assume) with more fans supporting WKU than FIU.
