2011-12 Sun Belt Men's Basketball Standings

West looks to be the much stronger part of the conference this year. Crazy that UALR is on top of the standings with a losing record…shoot, pretty crazy that we're in 2nd in the East with a losing record, lol.

At present, the Owls sit in 6th place overall...if the tournament started today that would mean playing on day one. These last two losses have really hurt. Going to need to muster up some O and finish strong!

Not that they were going to get in, but you can scratch ULM from consideration from the 2012 Sun Belt Tournament. It's not possible due to a post season ban by the NCAA based on APR.

That now leaves the remaining 11 teams, all of which will make it, in the hunt for seeding.

Standings updated up top with league results from 02-11-12:

UALR 60  MTSU 68

WKU 77  Troy 83

USA 88  ULM 86

UNT 81  FAU 86 2OT

Denver 77  FIU 63

ASU 65  ULL 68 OT

With the win over North Texas tonight, the Owls currently hold the fifth seed due to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

To maintain, they will likely need to post at least a 3-1 mark in the remaining four games, which is doable:

@WKU
@MTSU
USA
Troy

FIU 64  UALR 78

FAU 57  WKU 64

Troy 59  ASU 83

ULL 52  Denver 77

ULM 51  UNT 86

Looks like a night for the home teams?

With the loss to the Hilltoppers, the Owls now hold the sixth seed. Looking at who is left in other match-ups around the Belt, they will likely need help to get back to the fifth spot at this point since MTSU lies in wait and will be one tough haul on the road.

The other remaining contests "should" be wins, but can't count on them obviously.

ULL upsets North Texas today at home 57-53...good news for the Owls.

ULL 57  UNT 53

FAU 59  MTSU 72

ULM 57  Denver 76

FIU 67  ASU 77

WKU 61  USA 66

UALR 74  Troy 62 OT

Despite losing to MTSU, the Owls get some help with UNT being upset on Saturday.

However, South Alabama did not return favor and moved up to 7-7 overall in the SBC with their win over Western Kentucky. As a result, they now own the 6th spot, with the Owls currently being the 7th seed.

FAU can still take the 5th seed by winning their remaining games against USA & Troy, but will need UNT to drop one of their remaining contests to make it happen.

The Mean Green have UALR & Denver remaining on the road and will likely be underdogs in both.

Bottom line: Very possible.

Standings updated up top with league results from 02-23-12:

USA 79  FAU 76  OT

ASU 76  WKU 79

UNT 75  UALR 69  OT

Troy 75  FIU 70  OT

MTSU 94  ULM 61

With their loss to USA 79-76 in OT, the Owls fall out of contention for a bye on day one of the 2012 Sun Belt Tournament and are currently the 7th seed.

They will hold that spot as long as they defeat Troy in their final regular season game on Saturday.

If they do not, the result of MTSU @ WKU will determine their fate.

A Topper victory would move Western Kentucky to the 7th seed given head to head results against FAU (1-1) and the tie breaker against the top team (MTSU) going to WKU.

The Owls would then finish as the 8th seed.
