2012 FAU Softball Schedule

Western Kentucky (14-5, 2-0) took a double header from Florida Atlantic on Wednesday night 11-0, and 4-1 in Sun Belt conference opening play for both teams.

The Owls (6-15, 0-2) struggled at the plate, producing only six hits collectively, while seeing errors amount to the same final count at three per contest.

The Hilltoppers plated six runs in the third inning of game one before adding five more in the fifth inning for the final score. FAU CF Whitley Herb garnered the home team's only hit.

WKU led 1-0 in the first inning of the second game before the Owls returned favor to notch matters up. However, two Hilltopper runs later in the fifth would put them ahead for good.

FAU returns to the field for the final game of the three game series tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.

Scratch that…canceled, with no make up scheduled.

FAU will resume play on Friday in the Embassy Suites Classic when taking on Bethune-Cookman 6:00 PM.

They are hopeful to avenge a 12-10 loss to the Wildcats earlier in the season at the 2012 NTC Elite Invitational.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

The Owls lost in their first game on Saturday night 9-3 to Sun Belt foe Western Kentucky (17-7, 3-0) in a make-up affair.

Florida Atlantic assumed a 1-0 lead in their first at bat, but three miscues from SS Carly Speerin in the top half of the second were costly, as the Hilltoppers took control 5-1 therafter.

A Taylor Fawbush SAC fly pulled FAU (8-16, 0-3) back to within two in the bottom of the frame, but WKU expanded the margin to 7-2 later in the 4th behind two additional Owl errors.

Heather Barnes (3-of-4, 1RBI) doubled in Florida Atlantic's last run in their next turn at bat before Western Kentucky added solo efforts later in both the 5th and 6th to complete the win.

WKU was outhit for the game 9-11.

Paige Pender retired 12 straight Gopher batters in relief of starter Sam Messer.

The Owls face Providence in the last game of the Embassy Suites Classic.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

Florida Atlantic (8-18, 0-3) lost to Providence 9-0 on Sunday, as errors (5) once again took center stage in their demise.

After outscoring opponents 15-1 in the first two games, almost a polar opposite occured in Florida Atlantic being out tallied 14-1 in the closing pair.

A miscue allowed the Friars to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning before adding two earned runs in the third to assume a 3-0 advantage.

But two more Owl errors in the fourth would aid in an additional six Friar scores, and put the game out of reach while being called in the fifth.

Heather Barnes went 2-for-2 on the day, with Lindsey Shell's single rounding out the only other offense for Florida Atlantic who was outhit 10-3 by the Friars.

FAU next plays host to Colgate on Tuesday in a double header scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

Taylor Fawbush (3-7) tossed a complete effort in game one giving up seven hits and striking out six, as Florida Atlantic went error free for the first contest in quite some time.

FAU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd before the Raiders would answer with a pair as well in their next at bat to notch the score.

A Fawbush single down the left field line later in the 5th sealed the win for the Owls. 2B Heather Barnes was 2-for-2 with 2RBI.

In the nightcap, Colgate would strike first with two runs in the first inning before FAU answered in the bottom half of the frame.

Florida Atlantic (10-18, 0-3) would plate a solo effort in the 2nd before a throwing error by Colgate pitcher Rachel LeCoq in the 4th led to two more and a 5-2 lead for the Owls.

Another Raider throwing error in the 5th resulted in the final run of the evening as LF Lindsey Shell crossed the plate for the final tally.

Paige Pender notched the win in a complete game effort for FAU.
