The Owls won their fifth straight on Friday, shutting out Dartmouth College 5-0 before taking out Bethune Cookman 8-0 in the second game of the day.

Alison Milam drove in Alexa Ballard for the team's first run against the Big Green (9-8) in the 2nd before Lindsey Shell scored later in the at bat courtesy of a Carnesha Thompson (3-of-4) double to left.

Florida Atlantic (19-18, 6-3) notched another score in the 3rd, and Thompson hit her 4th homer on the season in the 4th to put the Owls on top 4-0. An RBI single from Stephanie Call accounted (3-for-4) for the final tally.

Samantha Messer (3-2) was the winning pitcher for FAU and allowed four hits in her complete game seven inning effort.

Taylor Fawbush (9-7) tossed the second no hitter of her career in game two, as the Wildcats went down in six innings.

FAU scored four runs in both the 3rd and final stanza, while Bethune (4-25) only managed to place runners on board via walks, and two Owl errors.

Call (2-of-4) connected for a two run shot to end the game, and RF Christina Martinez was a perfect 3-of-3 with an RBI against the Wildcat staff.

Day two of Parent's Weekend will see the Owls take on Iowa State at 3:45 PM, before another bout against BCC later in the day at 6:00 PM.

Owls Notch Fourth Straight Shutout & Seventh Straight Win

FAU registered its fourth consecutive shutout on Saturday, blanking Big12 opponent Iowa State 6-0 before an 8-0 win over Bethune Cookman.

Florida Atlantic (21-18, 6-3) put five runs on the board in the first inning against the Cyclones (15-15) including a two-run line drive homer from Stephanie Call.

Call (7-5) threw a complete game against ISU, allowing just four hits while striking out 10 Cyclone batters, and Lindsey Shell posted a 2-for-3 performance with a RBI at the plate.

The Owls secured a 1-0 lead against the Wildcats (4-27) in the top of the third in game two, and scattered the remaining runs over the final four frames.

FAU outhit Bethune 12-3 and was led by Sarah Howell (3-for-4) and Laura Mann (3-of-5, 2RBI).

Sophomore Paige Pender tossed the complete game shutout and improved to 10-8 on the year, allowing just three hits while setting down five Wildcats by way of strikeout.

The team is now six games over last year's win total (15) with 17 games remaining; two of which will wrap up Parent's Weekend tomorrow morning.

A rematch with Dartmouth will occur at 9:00 AM, followed by an 11:15 AM scheduled start against Elon.

Re: 2013 FAU Softball Schedule & Results

The winning streak reached nine games for Florida Atlantic (23-18, 6-3) after a 2-1 win in extra innings against Dartmouth and a 5-3 victory over Elon on Sunday.

Game one remained tied at 0-0 after seven innings, and the Big Green (10-10) scored first in the top of the 8th as the international tie break rule was instituted.

FAU pulled even bottom of the inning with a run of their own, and a RBI double from Laura Mann (1-of-3) scored Christina Martinez (1-for-3) for the game winner in the 9th.

Taylor Fawbush (10-7) threw all nine frames, issuing six hits and one run.

She would get the call again in game two, taking over for Samantha Messer (4I, 7H, 3R).

The Phoenix (11-15) led 3-1 after three and a half inning, but the Owls scored four unanswered off six hits in their next two trips to the plate.

Laura Mann was one again on point offensively, posting a 2-of-3 showing with 2RBI. Christina Martinez also went 2-of-3, and had an RBI as well.

Florida Atlantic returns to Sun Belt play next, taking on North Texas Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the first of a three game series.

FAU Softball Remains Hot; Downs North Texas 3-2 with 7th Inning Run

Heading into conference play earlier this month on March 6th, the Owls were 7-13.

On Tuesday they continued winning ways, defeating North Texas 3-2 in what has been a remarkable turnaround thus far for the 2013 season.

Florida Atlantic now stands at 17-5 since that time, with a 24-18 mark overall and a 7-3 record in SBC play.

Part of the reason has been a much improved showing from the circle, as shown tonight.

Getting the start, Stephanie Call (1-9 in 2012) tossed her 8th complete game of the year to improve to 8-5 for 2013.

The Mean Green drew an early 1-0 lead until Call’s sacrifice bunt allowed Carnesha Thompson to score on a squeeze play and even the score.

UNT (16-14, 4-4) posted another run in the 2nd to regain control, however a single to right by Alexa Ballard notched it up once again.

After reaching via a walk, FAU's Lindsey Shell cashed in on a UNT throwing error on the bottom of the 7th when the ball went into the outfield and allowed her to score the game winning run.

Tonight's victory came with a special meaning, as Head Coach Joan Joyce's father passed earlier in the day. He was 98, and recognized by many as the Owls' biggest supporter.

Joyce continued on the sidelines in his honor.

FAU will face North Texas again tomorrow in a double header beginning at 5:00 PM.

Re: 2013 FAU Softball Schedule & Results

The Owls win streak came to an end on Wednesday, as North Texas took both games of a double-header.

Florida Atlantic (24-20, 7-5) dropped the first game 6-0 before losing in the second 7-2 in eight innings.

North Texas enjoyed just a 15-14 advantage in hits for the pair of games, but kept the Owls from capitalizing in runs when they had the chance.

Taylor Fawbush tossed the entire first contest, but a lead-off walk in the second followed by two UNT hits enabled a 2-0 lead by the Mean Green. Later in the 5th, a quartet of singles produced another four scores for the visitors.

FAU placed runners in scoring position for the final two frames, however could not convert them into runs. Stephanie Call was 2-of-3, posting two singles in the first and final frames.

UNT (18-14, 6-4) took another early lead in the second game, scoring a run in the top of the first before the Owls answered in the bottom of the second behind RBI by Kathryn Spack and Lindsey Shell to lead 2-1.

FAU had trouble with base running all game, as miscues stymied potential rallies in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Call (7.2 IP, 6H, 7R, 9K) spent most of the latter portion of the game pitching out of trouble, and that finally caught up with the Owls in the eighth when the Mean Green broke the game open with five runs in the top of the inning.

A six game road swing now awaits the team, with South Alabama being the next opponent. They will have a full week off before tackling the Jaguars next Wednesday in game one of a double-header set to begin at 5:00 PM.

FAU was defeated by South Alabama in both games of Tuesday’s double header.

The Owls (24-22, 7-7) were run ruled 11-0 in the first game after being outhit 9-3 by the Jags.

Taylor Fawbush (3IP, 8H, 11R) took the loss for FAU to drop to 11-9 on the year, although only six of the runs against her were earned as FAU committed a pair of errors.

South Alabama scored multiple times in each of their trips to the plate aside from the 3rd inning and had four hits for extra bases, including a three run shot over the wall in the 4th.

Alexa Ballard, Shelby Knox and Lindsey Shell each posted a hit in the contest for the Owls.

Game two would remain tied through two and a half innings of play until South Alabama tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

Florida Atlantic threatened in the 5th with back-to-back singles, but a pop-out retired the side.

USA (31-7, 8-3) connected for two more homers in the 6th inning to expand the lead to 6-0, which effectively ended the contest.

After winning 10 straight games, the Owls have now lost their last four in a row while having been outscored 30-2 during that span.

The squad continues their road trip on Saturday against Troy with a double-header scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.

Owls lost their sixth in a row on Saturday, dropping both of the day's games to the Trojans…release via SID Justin Johnson:

The softball team lost both games of its doubleheader to Troy 4-3 and 5-1 on Saturday.

Troy (18-19, 6-4 Sun Belt) scored two runs in both the first and second innings to take 40 lead early in the first game. The Owls (24-24, 7-9) threatened in the third but didn't break through until the fourth, when a Trojan error and a two-run double by Alison Milam pulled them to within 4-3.

FAU had runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn't tie the score. Carnesha Thompson had a one-out single in the seventh, but a Trojan double play ended the game.

Both teams loaded the bases in the first inning of game two. FAU couldn't capitalize, but Troy scratched across a run for an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Stovall tied the game in the third with an RBI single that scored Stephanie Call. The Trojans immediately answered in the home half of the inning, taking a 2-1 on a squeeze play.

The Owls had runners on first and second with one out in the fourth inning, but another Troy double play ended the threat. Troy broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to take a 5-1 lead.

FAU will try to avoid a series sweep in the final game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
