FIU junior Jonnu Smith has been named this week’s John Mackey Tight End of the Week, the Mackey Award committee announced on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3 tight end tied a career-high with 10 catches, including two touchdowns, while registering a career-best 183 yards receiving as FIU defeated Old Dominion, 41-12, on Saturday night.

Too bad he can't be on my fantasy team.Posted On: Oct 28th 2015, 12:14 PM #351162
Fortunately & sadly enough, there is college football fantasy out there.

Reminds me of Jason Harmon a lot…tweener…too small to play in the SEC but fits right in for C-USA. We better have a successful game plan for him too, otherwise he could light us up. Last time they didn't have as many options, not the case any more, so we won't be able to double him up all the time.

…and a very short time ago, many of our self-proclaimed football experts labeled FIU a dumpster fire, and would have called for Turner's ouster in his first season had he been our coach.owl2Doc said
I once thought FIU would discover Turner was a bad hire and he'd fail enough that they'd fire him and call it a learning experience, but now once again they've gone from bad to almost bowl eligiblePosted On: Oct 26th 2015, 2:40 AM #351095
That being said, I don't know what our problem is with this team. I don't get paid to know, but some people associated with the program do get paid to know what the problem is, and they need to figure it out real soon. Time for the leadership to lead.Posted On: Oct 26th 2015, 7:07 AM #351098
FIU's program WAS a dumpster fire…its clearly not anymore. Ron Turner is playing a pro-set offense the same type schnelly used to run.

DANNY KANELL ALSO SPOKE AT GREAT LENGTH ABOUT HOW THE U NEEDS A STADIUM LIKE FAU HAS, MAYBE MORE LIKE 40k, BUT HE WAS PRACTICALLY GUSHING ABOUT FAU STADIUM!David Slavic said
Of course, it could be worse:
We could be the Miami Hurricanes, who fired Golden after their worst loss in history, and on The First Team with Taylor Zarzour and Greg McElroy, they mostly talk about the facility problems, and how Miami is so far behind the rest of the country, without an indoor practice facility, and playing ball in Dolphins Stadium which just doesn't work for the U. So we have the U beat when it comes to facilities.
Also on The First Team this morning, Shannon Spake of ESPN was asked about the Miami Dolphins, and started to talk about FAU and the stadium and the great things we have going on here. Apparently she's a FAU alum. So there's that…Posted On: Oct 28th 2015, 8:53 AM #351137

And this is why things can only go up from here. Seems like a lot of people who cover college football are implying that we're better set for the future than Miami. The problem with The U is that the university administration doesn't care much for athletics. They liked Golden a lot for keeping the graduation rates up and the program squeaky clean. Most fans of Miami, myself included, have no affiliation with the university and follow the team like it's a pro team. That's where I think we can capitalize. When and if the indoor athletic center is ever built, we'll have the best and most complete football facilities in South FL and among the G5 state schools. We just need to start winning!!

When/where was Kanell talking FAU? I'm trying to find that!
And seriously, this is our opportunity to become the South Florida team. Miami can't keep up with FSU and UF, UCF is a dumpster fire (for now), and FIU is bland as crap. I'm so certain that if we start winning games and contending for conference championships, we could be the Boise of the east. I can't wait for the indoor facility to break ground get started! This is our chance to… MAKE WAVES!!

Im all for winning, but this needs to be the #1 priority of our leadership whether its the coaching staff, AD, etc.
We lose this focus, I will no longer support our program.
Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Kanell: Miami needs smaller stadium closer to campus - ESPN Video
Some demeaning to some comments but true to me, "small", "nobody special",
but Howard and FAU GOT IT DONE!
Thank you Howard and GO OWLS!
