FINAL:

Tennessee State 64  FAU 69

The Owls snapped a two game slide on Sunday with a win over Tennessee State.

Florida Atlantic (6-3) was led by senior Morgan Robinson’s 18 points – 15 of which came in the second half. Fellow senior Ali Gorrell posted 16 points and led FAU on the boards with nine rebounds. Sophomores Sasha Cedeno and Danneal Ford each tallied nine points and four rebounds.

“I think we’re shooting the ball better now,” FAU Head Coach Kellie Lewis-Jay said. “We just have to get the continuity down together offensively. We’re not playing our best basketball, but you don’t necessarily want to be playing your best now.”

The team will now enjoy some time off before they return to action on Dec. 29, opening the FAU Holiday Tournament against Bethune-Cookman in The Burrow.

FINAL:

FAU 62  La Tech 65

With Tech holding onto a 65-62 advantage, Florida Atlantic inbounded the basketball with nine seconds to play following a timeout. The Owls (10-6, 2-3 C-USA), who entered the game ranked in the Top 10 in the country in three-pointers made and who had already hit 10 on the night, drew up a play for the potential game-tying attempt.

However, Tech (8-8, 3-2 C-USA) defended the play, forcing Florida Atlantic guard Malia Kency to attempt a last second 25-footer that rattled out, giving the Lady Techsters the win before 2,116 fans at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Ali Gorrell led the Owls with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Morgan Robinson posted 18 points behind a 4-7 showing from three point range.

After a five game win streak which included winning their first two conference games, the team has now lost three in a row in league play.
