The ball handling part is another question.

If it's true than yeah it's massively disappointing.
Certainly wouldn't be the first time. After Moody left I became numb to these things.
I don't know. I just don't feel like this program has any identity or momentum right now. I'm sure the players feel it too. And I know basketball players leave for all sorts of reasons and do that all the time nationally.
I remember what fauowl said about how this program doesn't have enough finding/support to be legitimate so it just plods along and every few years we bring in a new coach under the same financial restrictions and hope against hope that he can mine diamonds out of our roster, only to realize every coach that has ever been here has finished with a losing record.
So in that case we can argue that it doesn't matter if Curry is on the sidelines for another year or 10 more years, but I still can't shake the feeling like he's not our guy.Posted On: Apr 2nd 2016, 4:51 PM #355508
And being in CUSA now does not help at all! MUCH better BB league than the Belt.
But UAB lost their coach to STANFORD so the playing COURT levels somewhat.

Like fauowl said, we're going to go through the same things until we really devote some money to the program and I think we're at a point we're going to do that, but not with this coaching staff. We lost Snow which I think will be a bit of a blow in recruiting.
Hopefully things can improve, but I doubt anything drastic will happen soon.

I think it is time to come to the realization until football starts producing enough money to put into basketball this will be the norm.
Plus when you make entirely the wrong hire to replace Jarvis doesn't help………..

I felt this from the beginning, but I didn't want to say much until we had more evidence, but I just don't think Curry's the right guy.
Yep.
Think McCall will still make the trip down if we have an opening?

what is the point of sinking more money into a program that even at its very best will be a wash out in the NCAA tourney, and lose to North Carolina by 45 in the first round.
I wouldn't say that's the very best case scenario. Depends on how much more money you sink in. If you just pay the next coach $100k more, may not move the needle. If we build a new arena, we will get better recruits most likely, but they still need someone to do something with that talent.
Which means supporting the basketball program like we support the football program, and like you said that won't happen until football gets its legs underneath it… which could take another decade.

Hey, let me remind everyone that UAB canned its football program for much the same reason.Posted On: Apr 4th 2016, 4:11 PM #355567
Are you suggesting we fold our basketball program… or simply threaten to fold it to get more community support?

I'm just rocking the boat. I have no idea what the answer is. Seems no one does. Not even the AD , coach , or past coaches. Seriously, I am at a loss.I usually have my own opinion on what we should do. I truly have no idea.Posted On: Apr 4th 2016, 6:40 PM #355569
Interesting take Local. Basketball is usually a cheap sports to run but I wonder if it was as costly as football they would really consider canning it. I don't know about you guys but I haven't been to a basketball game since I graduated and we were still in the Sun Belt!
