Game Notes
Owls
Florida Atlantic looked to have the season's cold weather behind them, but will face some chilly temps at times this weekend against Charlotte. Friday night's opener will see readings hovering in the low to mid 50's for the duration of the contest.
FAU will continue to be without the services of batting leader Gary Mattis (.344, 22 RBI, 5 HR) who was suspended indefinitely from play for undisclosed reasons. Mattsi had reached based sucessfully in 20 straight games prior.
In the interim, Coach McCormack has looked to Jared Shouppe as one of Mattis' replacements, a move which paid immediate dividends with a three run shot against Rice in the Owls's series clincher on Sunday. Overall, the redshirt senior hit .333 with a .667 slugging percentage for the week.
On the mound the lineup will remain the same as it was against Rice, with Alex House, Mark Stewart, and Jake Miednik slated to take the bump respectively.
The Owls continue to be a patient bunch, with league leading marks in both walks (154) and on base percentage (.419).
49ers
Winthrop rallied to score three runs in the top of the ninth, the eventual game-winner with two outs, to stun Charlotte 3-2 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night. As a result, the Niners lost their third-straight and have scored just two runs over their last three contests.
The 49ers have shown a good eye at the plate and currently have the fewest strikeouts of any C-USA team, checking in with a mere 142 on the season while besting FAU's second place performance of 160.
Beginning the new weekend, the 49ers are a current postseason projection by Baseball America with a Strength of Schedule at 20 and RPI of 46 in the nation.
T.J. Nichting (.400) leads all Conference USA hitters at the halfway point of the season while Jackson Mims is fourth at .369. Colton Laws (4-0, 1.30) and Zach Flanagan (2-3, 2.52) are first and sixth leading all C-USA starters in ERA.

Charlotte breaks a three and a half inning scoreless stretch by roughing up Alex House for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Only three were earned.
The Owls have just two hits off of 49er ace Colton Laws who has three strikeouts.

Alex House initially (4.2IP, 8H, 7R, 4ER, 3K) stays on to battle the 49ers in the bottom of the frame but gives up another pair of runs and makes an exit for Nick Swan with two away.
Swan allows a single that plates another run before retiring the side via strikeout and the 49ers have a substantial lead heading to the sixth.

They take out Laws (6IP, 2H, 5K), so maybe Florida Atlantic can finally get something going.

Stretch time in Charlotte, as Andrew Jones takes the hill for the Owls to replace Swan (1.1IP, 3H, 2R, 1BB, 1K).

Owls now turn to their final trip at the plate, needing four runs to stay alive.
Frank, Shouppe, and Puerta due up.
Charlotte will take no chances, and look to closer Jonah Patten to try and finish the contest.

Shouppe singles and advances to third base thanks to a wild pitch. Puerta brings him home with a single before being brought home himself courtesy of TRIPLE by Eric Miranda.
But the BIG BANG comes from the bat of Langham, who homers (2RBI) to bring the contest even.
How about them Owls!
Down 9-0 and fight back to tie it up!
