This worries me a bit too, surprised the the wanting out actually.

The good news is that FIU had a great recruiting class and it is now GUTTED by the MLB draft, but their HS commits are gonna be getting serious bonus money, some in the multi millions!

There are lots of reasons for leaving. I'm sure he and his family had their minds made up that if a certain dollar figure was there , he would leave. For some , that number is huge. For some , not so much. Not signing is a gamble. A few years ago, So Miss had two potential millionaires in there outfield. They chose not to sign. That was two very bad decisions as other problems ended their dreams. FAU baseball has a history of producing some highly educated player. Players that go into public life well prepared . Players that are professionals , but not professional athletes. We have a few pro players. Most , if not all, still in the minors. Signing is the individuals choice. The odds are against being a star pro baseball player. Graduating from FAU gives you better odds in public life. This factor is what makes being a successful college coach so difficult. FAU has had some HUGE commits that have never stepped foot on campus. Straight to the pros out of high school. So is the key to recruit guys that are good , but not great ? No. You keep trying to get the best players that you can and hope they come to FAU for three years before moving on. This is the nature of college baseball and basketball.

Anthony Rizzo as an example.

How often do these guys double-dip?

That is to say: take (even a meager) signing bonus out of high school and try to hack it, then when the finances hurt too much, sign with FAU, play out their college career, and get drafted back into the pros at a higher standing than before?

once you take a signing bonus your college career is over.

You turn pro yoo turn pro IN THAT SPORT. You could come back and play any other sport but NOT your professional one! Many guys have done the pro baseball thing and not made it out of the minors and come back to play college football.
