C-USA Football: Games for Week of 10-27-18

The final week of October will begin with a Friday night showdown in south Florida before a five-game league ledger on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech will look to get bowl-eligible for the fifth straight season when it goes to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic, winners of 10 consecutive home games.  Bulldogs senior DE Jaylon Ferguson, the nation’s active leader in sacks, needs just one more to become C-USA’s all-time leader, but will face an Owls offensive line that has allowed the second-fewest sacks (7) in the league and the 13th-fewest in the FBS.

Another cross-division game leads off Saturday’s action when Southern Miss plays at Charlotte.  Junior QB Jack Abraham (second in C-USA averaging 308.3 yards per game) leads the Golden Eagles offense, while junior RB Benny LeMay (second in C-USA in rushing at 94.9 per outing) keys the 49ers offensive attack, as both teams look for their fourth win of the season.

East Division rivals Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion meet up in Norfolk.  The Blue Raiders have won the first two meetings between the schools.  Brent Stockstill tossed three touchdowns in last week’s win for MT, while ODU’s Blake LaRussa is averaging 351.6 yards with 11 TDs in five starts this season.

North Texas welcomes Rice to town as the Mean Green seek win No. 7 on the season.  Junior QB Mason Fine (19 touchdowns vs. one interception) leads the powerful North Texas offense.  Rice counters with some of the best special teams play in Conference USA.

FIU is off to its first 3-0 start as a member of C-USA as the Panthers take to the road to battle WKU.  The Panthers have one of the most explosive offenses in the league and their big play ability will be matched against a Hilltopper offense that is fourth in the league in passing despite having four different signal-callers play this season.

UAB has reached bowl-eligibility while enjoying the best start in school history as the Blazers head west to the Sun Bowl for the first time since 2010 to play UTEP.  UAB is the number one ranked pass defense in the conference (seventh nationally), while an improved Miners D is now third in C-USA in passing defense.
