"Up Close" with Jeff Van Camp

jeffvancampheadshot2010

With Rusty Smith’s departure to the NFL, redshirt senior Jeff Van Camp is set to take over for the Owls. A career backup, Van Camp got a chance to start five games last season when Smith went down with a mid-season injury. Compiling a 3-2 record in those contests, Van Camp looked impressive throwing for 1,372 yards and 12 touchdowns while managing only two interceptions.

The athletic quarterback out of Navarre High School in Gulf Breeze, Florida, played both football and basketball in high school. His father, Jeff Van Camp Sr, played defensive line in college for the Louisville Cardinals and also enjoyed some time in professional wrestling.

Van Camp likes things on the chilly side while traveling on the road and requires that the air conditioner temperature be set at 59 degrees the night before a game.

“He’s like a penguin", said Van Camps hotel roommate and wide receiver Avery Holley.
