"Up Close" with Jimmie Colley

jimmiecolleyheadshot2010

Amidst all of the new faces on the Florida Atlantic offensive line unit, redshirt-freshman Jimmie Colley enters fall practice as one of the younger more inexperienced players in the group. With the opportunity to compete for playing time at the center position, Colley is expected to make a difference on a FAU line that is breaking in five new starters.

Joining the Owls a year ago, Colley is now up to 6’ 3” and 280 pounds and has progressed over his redshirt season with the program. Having met NFL star Jevon Kearse during offseason workouts behind the Oxley center, he says the professional player challenged him to take his game to the next level.

Raised in Pensacola, Florida, Colley played high school football at Pace High School. Named second team All-State his senior season, he was also his high school team’s captain. Colley signed with the Owls over other offers from Sun Belt foes Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Colley recently sat down with us for “Up Close”.

“Mac n’ cheese.”

What is your pet peeve?

“Not keeping clean, like keeping yourself clean.”

Who is your current off the field role model?

“Jevon Kearse. Just because he made it to the big league, he’s the next level above me, and I have got to meet him and talk to him here at the Ox. So it’s kind of given me motivation to work harder and see what he has done. ”

What are you most proud of?

“As far as I made it. In high school I was always smaller than everybody else, and I always thought I would never make it and play Division 1 ball. Ever since I have been here I think I have progressed pretty good.”

What is your major?

“Criminology. I’m going to take it and get a minor in Biology and do like Florida Wildlife or some kind of game warden or something.”

What is your Faith?

“Christian.”

“I’m pretty strong in the weight room, I wouldn’t say I’m the best, but that’s probably my best physical thing as far as football.”

What aspect of your game do you feel is your weakness?

“Work ethic, sometimes I get lazy because repetition gets old to me, but I need to keep grinding through it.”

Down the field

Besides football, what brought you to FAU?

“The area. Boca Raton is nice, and the campus is real nice.”

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

“To start.”

What game are you looking forward to the most next season?

“Probably the first one UAB, because that’s the game all of my family can make it too. It’s only three and half or four hours from Pensacola.”

What do you want FAU fans to know about you personally?

“Other than football, I like hunting and fishing and hanging out with my family. I fish the Gulf up there, and fish snapper, king fish, tarpon and whatever is running.”
