FAU vs OSU Game Notes: Cassidy Sparks Continued Run

DH connects for three homers

Eddie Cassidy is in FAU’s lineup for one reason, to hit the ball out of the designated hitter spot, and he did just that today. Cassidy hit three homeruns against the Beavers, each of them against a different pitcher, and recorded his first three homerun game in his career. “This is the first time I’ve ever had three homeruns. I’ve had a couple of games with two, and they felt good, but this feels great,” Cassidy said of the three hits.

Cassidy’s three homeruns and seven runs batted in, broke Florida Atlantic regional records, and fueled the Owls win over Oregon State, setting up a showdown with regional host, Florida.

FAU pitcher Hugh Adams got the win, after pitching three and a third innings of work. Adams came in after the rain delay in the 3rd inning and struck out three batters, while giving up three hits and three earned runs. Starting pitcher R.J. Alvarez looked strong, until a third inning where he gave up four earned runs.

Barry Rooks and Ryan Bernal came in to pitch after Adams, and only gave up a combined three hits.

Raymond Church had a big day hitting out of the leadoff spot, going 2-5 with two RBIs and a double. However, the number two hitter, Mike Albaladejo was 0-5. Albaladejo has gone 1-14 in regional play.

FAU now finds itself in a double header situation, something that they have seen before. The Owls played a Saturday double header against Western Kentucky and won the second game, 9-8. The other double header was against Louisiana-Monroe, and that second game was a 6-5 loss.

“I’m always ready for a doubleheader, we might be a little tired, but our emotions will take over,” Cassidy said about the team and the day’s second game.

Head coach John McCormack on the second game starter, Taylor Everist, “He’s good and got a lot of experience, he pitched really well in the conference tournament, so I think were in good shape.”
