Five Positives that FAU Football can Take into the Off-Season

The season is over and for some it might be a good feeling to put such a difficult few months behind us. I however think this is a good time for reflection and some glass half full talk. Of course I am partial to my glass being half full of beer and some of us might need a drink after the heartache of the 2009 season. With glass raised I salute FAU football and the five things that we can take from this season as positives going into the off-season.

1) Concerns about the future of FAU's QB situation seem to be put to rest with the late season play of Jeff Van Camp. He came off the bench to the tune of 12tds and only 2ints while completing 59% of his passes and he added an additional 3tds on the ground. I can only think of three better performances in the history of Vans. Eddie Van Halen, Van Morrison, and of course the Volkswagen Van. I am confident in stating that the QB position will be in good hands next year despite the departure of FAU's all-time leading passer Rusty Smith.

2) 'Bam-Bam' Morris proved worthy of his name. After being moved from FB to RB and inserted as the starter, he smashed his way to 1392 yards and 11tds. Morris had the best season performance by a RB in FAU history and with two more years of eligibility he should shatter virtually every FAU rushing record.

3) FAU closed out the season with two wins including a win over FIU and now FAU has beaten FIU on the field 7 out of 8 games that the two schools have played. Although it is little consolation the wins provide some momentum going into the off-season.

4) Five of FAU's losses were to teams that will be playing in bowls this year with two of those losses coming by seven points or less. Never good to lose, but at least most of the losses were to bowl worthy teams with a combined record of 40-21.

5) FAU can anticipate moving into a new on-campus stadium in 2011. Fans, players, and coaches alike have been waiting for years for some forward movement and it appears as though it will finally happen. This should provide a boost for recruiting and it will definitely provide motivation for the players and coaching staff once construction gets underway.

My glass is now empty. Time for another beer.

GO OWLS!!!
