Brown Setting In

Cornerback Reggie Brown has quietly found a role as FAU’s kick returner.

Brown is averaging 28 yards a return through the first three games of the season and is leaving an impression.

The true freshman played multiple positions while at Jesuit High School, so playing special teams came as nothing new when he arrived at FAU.

“I’ve done it before,” Brown said.  “It’s nothing but going in and doing what the coaches tell me to do.”

Brown’s most productive game came last Saturday in the win against USF. He racked up 83 yards on three returns, and his 28 yard average is good enough to rank third in Conference-USA.

Aside from a few missed return lanes –– Brown (pictured) says he’s pleased with his production so far an is excited for the next game.

Special Teams have plagued the Owls for years: as the program is reaching it’s 13th season and still looking for their first kick return for a touchdown.

“The first run back definitely drives me. Putting the offense in good field position or changing the momentum of the game is my main focus,” Brown said.

FAU will face Middle Tennessee State Saturday at noon, which will give Brown his first taste of home field advantage.

“I can’t let the excitement get to me. I still just play my game do what I am told to do and stay focused.”

FAU’s defense, most notably the secondary, has played lights out football the past few weeks and the young Brown is finding his role on this squad.

“My role is doing whatever the coaches tell me to do,” Brown said. “Whenever they tell me to go in I will go in, or if that means standing on the sidelines and helping. Whether it is five plays or 50 plays I am always ready to get in.”
