New Student Housing Project Coming to 20th Street

And then there were three.

The Boca Sol apartment complex on 20th Street is being completely renovated and will reopen as a "hip and swanky" student housing complex called University Square this August. The official website is here.

University Square becomes the third dedicated student housing complex near campus along with Addison Park and University Park. In fact, the logos for University Park and University Square are so similar that it appears to be the same company that owns both new student housing projects.

Business must be good on 20th Street.

For what it's worth, University Square is a mix of furnished 1 and 2 bedroom apartments listed at ~$1010 for 1BR here on their Craigslist posting. However, that includes internet, water and cable, so not too bad at all… especially as a two bedroom.

Other incentives include "an incredible courtyard space anchored by the pool with cabanas and amenity center that includes a brand new fitness center and cyber cafe with study center. Did we mention the outdoor living rooms and hammocks?"

The FAUOFFCAMPUS listing has a little bit more information. Perhaps more importantly, this new student housing complex will be within walking distance of college bar NightOwl and Publix - can't really beat that location.

As part of the pitch to the City for University Park, the developers promised to work with FAU to create a shuttle service that would provide access to campus; University Square could easily be added to that route.

So there's that.

I know of one other student housing complex that's planning to open up near campus called The Grove but I haven't heard anything new about that in awhile. Figure that's at least a year out but I'll let you know if that changes.

Now, obviously this isn't a real estate blog but it's very exciting to see this kind of development along 20th Street. Where we expected to have one new student housing project (University Park) opening this Fall, we now have two. Hopefully some other complexes along 20th can follow suit.

Until next time,
GO OWLS!

EDIT 6/7/14: The University Press covered the story as well and expanded on a few points here - check it out.
