Fearless Predictions for Week Three - Owls Off

fearlesspredictions2010week3

Week Two gave Owl fans lots to talk about. Week Three will be quiet in Owl Country as the team has a week off to prepare for conference play against North Texas. Last week I went 5 of 7 in my Fearless Predictions including coming within 1 point of the exact scores for FAU vs. MSU and OSU vs. Miami which gives me a season total of 10 for 12 on my predictions.

All things considered Week Three is weak at best when it comes to finding interesting games. With FAU off and not too much else exciting going on in college football I found myself hard pressed to take the time to come up with some predictions. However, no matter how bad or good my predictions are they always get some attention. So I am giving it to you folks. Here goes with some fairly random Fearless Predictions for Week Three.

In SBC action:

09/18 Troy @ UAB

FAU beat UAB in the final moments of their game in week one. Troy almost beat Oklahoma State last week. The Trojans have proven that they can move the ball and they also have proven that they will give up big yards (522 against OSU). UAB can score as evidenced against FAU. However the UAB defense is questionable. In two games Troy has scored 68 total points and given up 68 total points. That means that the Troy defense is as bad as their offense is good. UAB comes into this one after a heartbreaking loss against FAU followed by a 28-7 disappointment to Southern Methodist University. Expect Troy to be watching film of the SMU defense. UAB needs to pull out a win to get back on track. Troy can hardly afford to lose two in a row going into conference play against Arkansas State. This one should be a high scoring affair. I think Troy comes away with the win.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Troy 41
UAB 28

09/18 Middle Tennessee @ Memphis

MTSU is struggling with off-field distractions and question marks at QB. MTSU lost to Minnesota and came away with an impressive win over FCS opponent Austin Peay. The Blue Raiders would love to be 2-1 heading into conference play. Memphis is 0-2 after suffering back to back against Mississippi State and East Carolina. The Tigers gave up 49 points in each of those games. MTSU should be able to score even without Dwight Dasher at QB and the MTSU defense should be able to contain a Memphis offense that has logged only 566 yards in two games. This will be a close game with MTSU coming out on top.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Middle Tennessee 38
Memphis 27

09/18 Florida International @ Texas A&M

This might be this week's most interesting game featuring an SBC team. FIU comes into this one after losing their opener to Rutgers by a score of 19-14. The game was dominated statistically by the Panthers with 15 first downs to 8 for Rutgers and 371 yards of offense for FIU to 172 for Rutgers. FIU has the athletes to compete. Texas A&M has not been tested yet as they played FCS team Stephen F. Austin and CUSA opponent Louisiana Tech. A&M put up 48 points in each of those games. FIU will give the Aggies their toughest test of this young season. In the end the FIU offense doesn't have the firepower to win this one, but they will put forth a respectable showing.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Texas A&M 38
Florida International 24

My final Fearless Prediction does involve FAU despite the fact the Owls will not be in action this weekend.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
The Owls will use the week off to regroup and they will be playing to win from here on out.

Not the most appealing week for college football. Even so, there are some interesting match-ups involving SBC teams. Enjoy the down week and good luck to the Owls as they prepare for conference play against UNT.
