Miami moves to 47-8 all-time over FAU

Miami scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-0 victory over FAU on Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Hurricanes (22-7) struck early while scoring four runs in the first inning as FAU starting pitcher Kenny Gray walked two batters and hit three more.

Gray (0-1) only lasted 1.1 innings and gave up six runs off two hits with three walks, three hit by pitch, and one strikeout in his first career start.

Miami struck for three more runs in the second off the bat of Yasmani Grandal. The switch-hitter ripped a three-run home run off reliever Jake Meiers to put the Hurricanes ahead 7-0.

Another three-run home run by Scott Lawson in the fifth put the game out of reach and gave Miami a 10-0 lead.

Jason Boyer had the best night for any FAU reliever, throwing 1.1 innings while not surrendering a hit or a run. Andy Mee also came on to pitch a scoreless eighth.  The Owl closer made his first appearance of the week in a non-save situation.

The victory gives Miami a sweep of the three games between the two in-state rivals on the season and pushes their lead to 47-8 all-time over the Owls.

Florida Atlantic will return to play on Friday night with a three-game road series against New Orleans. The Privateers are competing in their last season as a Sun Belt Conference member having announced they will move to Division III status as of July 1st. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Maestri Field.
