Women's Hoops: FAU Blitzes Past Troy 83-60

Lyrell Barfield records a career-high with 20 points
The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated Troy 83-60 on Wednesday night from FAU Arena.

The Owls (7-7, 3-1) were paced by Lyrell Barfield who led all scorers with 20 points.  Barfield was able to make a career-high 7-of-9 shots from the field and was 3-for-5 from three-point range.

The Trojans (8-5, 1-3) received double-digit performances from Brittnie Davis and Kirsten Smith who both scored 10 points.

FAU scored the first seven points of the game and did not look back the rest of the way, holding a double-digit lead for the majority of the game.  The Owls generated 18 points in the paint and outscored the Trojans in transition 8-2 in the first period.  The 47-21 lead at intermission for FAU was its largest halftime lead of the season.

The second half did not provide much respite for Troy as the Owls continued to press in the back court and find open layups underneath.  FAU shot a season-high 58.9% (33-for-56) from the field and tallied the second-highest scoring output of the season.  The Owls scored 93 points in the season opener against Webber International on November 13.  The Owls also forced 19 turnovers and recorded 17 assists.

Senior Brittany Bowe also had a solid game for the Owls pouring in 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with six assists and three rebounds. Three other Owls scored in double-figures marking just the second time this season that FAU had more than three players crack the double-digit mark in scoring.

The Owls will be back on the court this Saturday for another conference home game against Louisiana-Monroe.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from FAU Arena.
