"Up Close" with Malik Eugene
Malik Eugene hopes to help rebuild a Florida Atlantic defense that struggled last season giving up almost 220 yards a game rushing. The 6’3” 240 pound Eugene is slated to start at strong-side linebacker positions for the Owls.
With 10 starts last season for the Owls and playing time in 12, Eugene recorded 34 tackles throughout the year and recovered three fumbles. His best game came in the season opener at Nebraska, in which he had five tackles, a pass break up, and a quarterback hurry.
Born in Brooklyn New York, Eugene played high school football in Tampa Florida at Freedom High School where he earned All-County honors after a 13-sack senior season. Eugene also played high school basketball and averaged 15-points a game.
A consistent hard worker academically, Eugene graduated high school with a 4.1 GPA, after taking many Advanced Placement and honors classes for college credit. "I was always going to go to college," remarked Eugene "even if it wasn't for football."
