Energetic session marks start of new season
In preparation of the 2011 season opener on February 18th against Hofstra University, the FAU baseball team held their first pre-season practice on Friday, participating in defensive drills and batting practice before concluding with a three-inning intra squad scrimmage.
“Today's practice was spirited and energetic,” said John McCormack, FAU’s head baseball coach. “The guys were excited to be back on the field as a team.”
The scrimmage was highlighted by senior Colby Gratton’s game-winning hit with two outs in the third inning, and displayed strong performances by forecasted starting pitchers Paul Davis (Pensacola Junior College) and sophomore right-hander Jake Meiers.
Junior Ahmed Garcia, who returned to the mound after missing the 2010 season with an arm injury, tossed an inning in relief for both teams.
“I thought it was a well played and crisp game,” said McCormack.
FAU will return to the field on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
