The women’s basketball team fell to Miami 89-48 in the first round of the UM Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night at the BankUnited Center.
“We didn’t box out or do any of the things we needed to do to be successful today,” said head coach Chancellor Dugan.
The Owls (2-4) were led on offense by Miami native Viviana Peñate who scored a career-high 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
FAU kept things close in the first half and trailed only 41-27 at halftime.
The Hurricanes (4-1) came out fast in the second half and started on a 10-2 run to quickly take a 22-point lead.
Morgan Stroman led all scorers with 23 points for Miami who shot 43% from the field in the game.
Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams, who both average over 20 points per game, were held to just 14 and 13 points, respectively by the FAU defense.
FAU will play the consolation game of the tournament on Saturday against Eastern Illinois. Tip-off against the Panthers is set for 5 p.m.
