The FAU softball team opened the 2011 campaign with a two-day tournament held at the USA National Training Center in Clermont, FL.
The day began with the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga pushing across two unearned runs, the only runs they would need, in the bottom half of the second inning. The Owls tallied five hits, including three by freshman right fielder Whitley Herb, and a double by senior third baseman Ashlyn Parmerter but left 11 on base in the loss. FAU’s lone run came in the top of the six on miscues by the Mocs.
Senior Rose Gressley pitched the complete game; gave up five hits and two unearned runs in the loss.
The second game saw the Owls jump on the board early with a two-run scoring single in the bottom half of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. The lead stood until back-to-back homers by Georgia Tech for what would be the game’s final at 3-2. The Owls had six hits in the game including two by Gressley.
Taylor Fawbush, playing in front of a hometown crowd, pitched seven innings retired seven via the strikeout, but took the loss.
