FAU's Kerrith Whyte, Jr Drafted by the Chicago Bears

Florida Atlantic University senior running back and kick returner Kerrith Whyte, Jr was drafted in the 7th round, 222nd pick overall, of the 2019 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears.

Whyte, from Loxahatchee, Florida, is the only player in the FAU program’s history to return a kick for a touchdown. The redshirt junior, who will graduate next week, did so in 2017 versus Louisiana Tech and repeated the feat in 2018 versus Old Dominion.

He was part of a one-two punch in the backfield in 2018, tallying 866 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Whyte added 10 receptions for 160 yards and two scores.

His selection also marked the second time two FAU players were taken in the same draft and the first time two FAU running backs were taken in the same draft. Whyte joins fellow Owl – both declaring early – Devin Singletary, who was taken in the 3rd round and 66th overall by the Buffalo Bills.

The only other FAU duo drafted in the same year was defensive back Keith Reaser (5th round by San Francisco 49ers) and defensive lineman Randell Johnson (7th round by the Buffalo Bills) in 2014.

Whyte is the eighth FAU player, since the FAU football program’s inception in 2001, to be selected in the NFL draft and is the 41st player to sign a contract with a NFL team.
